PREORDER CONROE'S!!!!

SITE!!!

I'd be careful about preordering Conroe. Just because a store lets you preorder doesn't mean they'll be getting them any sooner than anyone else. Probably just the opposite.

When AM2 came out a few second tier web stores did preorders, basically taking people's money and making them wait until the store got some. Meanwhile newegg and places like that got the AM2 cpus sooner.

Just buy from a place that has them "in stock". There is no magic way to get Conroe sooner, only a magic way to get ripped off.

Heya guys i just found this forum topic through google, im in need of some expertise 😀
This is what i would like to order and i would luv to have some comments on this system both bad and good.
Something im abit unsecure about is the memory, is it possible to overclock the CPU with em?

WOW!

Amazing guys! Make sure to keep this tread open. I'm putting it in my favorite to come get a look at it every once in a while. Great source of informations.

It's these post that make it worth coming here!

GREAT!

Mother board is great, expensive thought, and if you dont need the little remote, the WIfi module, etc, you can probably get another less intense model. Still if you like these feature great board, already worked with a few of them...

Graphic card is nice, but DX10 parts from nVidia are less than 3 months away and ATi are less than 6 month away(approx.) so I have my doubt about buying a top of the line right now. But hey, it's a really good card anyhow, I do find Asus over priced thought.

PSU, I dont have that much experience with TT, I would suggest a Seasonic 500/600 whatt, should be plenty, has super nice efficiency and works great!

As far as RAm is concerned I'd shoot for Cas3 ram, either Corsair XMS2-6400C3(v1.1) , or Corsair 5400UL, or any OCZ/Corsair/Kingston/Gskill/patriot with thighter timmings

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply. I will probably buy a new graphic card later on which supports DX10.
About the ram im confused :/ cas 3 is expensive as hell hehe
[code:1:6770b02283]Twin2X 2x1024MB DDR2, PC6400 DDR800, CAS 3-4-4-9, TWIN2X2048-6400C3[/code:1:6770b02283]
costs the double im afraid =(

im using at present a thermal take pure power 480W never had any issues with it, i was also thinking about geting the same mobo as the poster above(nice mobo), and a 1900xt gpu, i asked many people about the psu, and i was told that the 480W will be enough to power the 1900xt, i honestly think that the 600W one u mentioned would be an overkill (unless ull be going xfire) but with dx10 gpu's coming out i think its worth waiting for them, as it was for the core 2 duos

It isn't worth the extra cash. It'll probably cost 150$ more (not sure), but for the same $ you could almost get a E6700 cpu that'll perform better than the one mention with faster memory. Go for CAS4 memory instead. More money in your pocket for other items anyway.

My 2 cents.

I'd be careful about preordering Conroe. Just because a store lets you preorder doesn't mean they'll be getting them any sooner than anyone else. Probably just the opposite.

NO! Here in Montreal, at Microbytes ( www.microbytes.com ), they do have it at hand. I could even get one now, but I want to wait to get all my part at the same time and i don't have the amount necessary yet. But it's not the point. From what I've been told there, it won't be such a problem to get a Core2Duo by the date it released officially.

I'd be even more careful about buying Conroe from stores that have it available today. just because they're selling it, doesn't mean that it's a fully functional stepping. Besides, I saw the price that they have it for, and I'm gona need the extra buck.

THis intel's conroe is seriously going to bombard the market but amd's upcoming processor might be a good one.Well there will be a severe fight between AMD and Intel[/quote]

I honestly think AMD dropped the ball, (but then again, they are dealing with limited funds compared to Intel).

I doubt there is anything from AMD that i will want to have for the next 2 years at least, compared to a Conroe, otherwise AMD would have been singing the virtues of their "Conroe" killer by now.

thx for the links...darn it i so much hoped that the E6600 would cost a bit less than that $350  so i fuess ill have to go with the E6400 version, ....or would it be beter to get a beter cpu, rather than a beter gpu?

Funny, I live in Montreal and I work for a Computer shop, we have all the same / more distributors than MicroBytes and I have yet to see the Conroe @ the distributors. Now there's the grey Channel where you might find some a bit earlier but we did'nt spot any yet =(

Oh yeah im pretty sure you'll be fine witha 480 even if you're Ocin some.
I just love seasonic PSU and he asked for a really powerfull one, so I mentioned these. But the DX10 card are going to consume a lot of juice(rumored 350watt) so 600 might not be that much of an overkill. I personally ended up changing my PSu after two years because I got my 6800 and I oced my computer and put a rapter so the 380 that seamed reasonable back then was'nt enough =|.

Well this conroe is going to be released at a cheap price but would they serve for better gaming than AMD?I have heard that gaming is better in amd than intel. Is it true?
CAN conroe be selected for running heavy games or intensive applications or whether shifting to Amd is better??

aak,

Please look at the first page of this thread. You will see many different benchmarks "including gaming" which easily show that the Conroe or Core 2 Duo outpaces AMDs current processors in nearly all benchies.

The data on the first post is fairly complete and pretty unbiased.

As I tell everyone, please do not beleive, me look at it for yourself.

You should draw the same conclusions as many here "those with deductive skills that is"

Well watching the benchmarks i feel a little dizzy in the head but a question.

I have 2 ram modules 2*512 mb DDR400,Intel has shifted to DDR2 can i use the conroe with DDR400 if i can then which MOBO should i select??

no, just like AM2, Conroe is gonna need DDR2, and i recommend at least DDR 2 800 rather than 667 to get the full potential. according to some benchmarks.

i hope that the info that ati's cards wil use that 350 W is just a rumor, i thought that the dx10 cards by using the ddr4's will consume quite a litle bit less power, to be honest i dont realy want to replace my current psu, so i gues that ill have to stick with the dx9 series gpus, the change of ading another psu, and that (crapy in my opinion ) vista will be not realy worth the upgrade...atleast not now....althou the conroes are

Conroe performs very well, unlike AM2 chips, with inexpensive DDR2 533 memory, which is asynchronous... also which Crashman has pointed out.

This is very important since it makes Conroe even better positioned than AMD due to not only CPU's cost less, but memory costs much less too.
