Compaq AP400 problems

Hi folks,

I'm having a couple of problems with my new (well, just bought) AP400
700Mhz.

F10 doesn't work to enter setup - I can't enter setup at all. I have
installed the Compaq diagnostics setup into its own partition from the
Softpaq floppies, but nothing happens. All I get is the word 'setup' at
the bottom right of the screen, then it boots as normal. The diagnostics
when run from the floppies say the system is fine.

The next thing is that I can't do a warm reboot. I get "non-system disk
or disk error" . I have to power off the box and restart it.

Any thoughts? Any help gratefully received.

Hi Michael,

I have been getting the same with my AP400.

I haven't got a diagnostic partition on my hard disc, so I have not
been able to do the upgrade that you have done.

The "non-system disk or disk error" if you get it when it is trying to
boot from the hard-disc means that there is not a bootable partion or
more likely one that has not got a recognisable operating system on it.

The setup from disks 2 & 3 of the SoftPAQ should allow you to perform
setup.

If you have a boot floppy for your operating system, that will take you
to a command prompt, then you should be able to put the boot files on
the HDD.
- For Windows & DOS this would by SYS C: if you wanted to put it on
the first HDD.

Please let me know how you get on.

Regards,
Tony
