Compaq nx9010 booting problems

Hello,
my hp compaq nx 9010 doesnt boot normally , it goes straight into system menu. on which it doesnt allow me to really change anything.
if i restart it i can press f12 and it will boot from lan, but i cant get internet connection

If you have an XP install disk, or the system recovery disk that comes with the computer, you can do a repair install.
Look in this forum, fourth post from the top, for the directions.
Repair does not reformat the drive, or erase your personal files. But it will make the computer work again.
After you get it working, back up all your personal files, in case of future problems.

it goes straight into system menu

There are hundreds of menus in Xp, none are referred to as "system menu" Can you explain what you see in that menu referred to?

If by chance it is the Advanced Startup Menu, the cursor keys are the method of navigation.
