What should I be looking for when buying a drive for this PC (Lenovo s500 10hd0037uk)? There's no drive in it currently, it was using a KINGSTON SUV400S37480G (upgraded from the original drive), Graphics card is a Geforce GT610 Synergy 1GB Graphics card, 16GB RAM. I'm looking to get an SSD drive but I'm confused as to whether I should be looking at M2 or SATA. The previous drive was SATA, so is that the best choice?

  • lenovo s500 10hd0037uk
  • Geforce GT610 Synergy 1GB Graphics card
  • 16 GB RAM (max) DDR3
  • SLOTS
    • PCIe 16x
    • M.2
  • SATA 3
  • PREVIOUSLY HAD -KINGSTON SUV400S37480G
  • (1TB max)
Any help advice would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

According to your manual;
https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/s500_hmm.pdf
the M.2 slot is meant for the WiFi module/card, not storage. So your only option of r an SSD is to get a 2.5" drive. If one port is occupied by your existing SSD and the other is occupied by a SATA ODD, then you might want to replace the 480GB Kingston drive or the ODD, by using a secondary drive caddy like this one;

but please check the dimensions for your ODD before buying.

Thank you, I should have thought of looking on the Lenovo website for the manual- I just presumed it was too dated! The old SSD is in a new PC, so I can just replace it with the same type. Thank again!
