I received an old PC with a MSI MS-7698 mainboard in it.
some specs:

8 GB DDR3 RAM 1333 Mhz
rest of the specifications can be found here :

it has an onboard APU and i have the impression that video playback runs really bad.
I tried installing an old graphics card : ATI Firepro W2100 with 2 GB DDR3
That´s where the problems start, the PC wouldn´t post at all after that and the LEDs on the CPU fan wouldn´t light up either.
The PCI-E slot is only x4, and i wonder if the power consumption of the board is too high to run it with a graphics card ?
I tested it with two PSUs, 300 Watt ( be quiet )and 350 Watt ( FSP ).
The Firepro W2100 should only need about 30 Watts.

After removing the card , the PC worked normal just like before.
I am using Xubuntu , a linux distro, similar to Ubuntu as the name implies. Also wondering if that might be the problem when combined with this hardware.
Any tips and info about the problem with the graphics card and the terrible video playback at 1080p would be much apreciated.

Can you please pass on the model of the PSU's and their age?

IMHO,
Slots; 1 PCI Express x16 slot with x4 operation (PCI Express Bus SPEC V2.0 compliant)
I wouldn't drop any money on that FM1 platform, seriously.

BIOS version on that motherboard of yours?

I´m not sure about the exact age of both PSUs. The be quiet PSU is a 300 watt 80 plus bronze pure power and the FSP PSU is called FSP350-60HHN(85).
I got that PC for free. I haven´t spend any money on it yet. And i am not planing to do so. The CPU is very limiting and i know that it´s too old to handle anything else than old games and some office stuff. I have another computer that´s a lot more capable.
My plan is to write stuff on it and watch some videos.
I thought about doing some retro gaming on it. Maybe i could install XP on a separate partition.

I might do a bit of casemodding as well, it´s in a neat case, just the color is a bit boring, because it´s completely black.
I also added a SSD (128 GB ) as a a bootdrive.

The BIOS Version ist the latest. 1.5

I could also use it for some basic audio editing with Audacity. It is a very quiet mashine.
