Computer cooling question

OK ive never had a problem before cooling a computer. Ive only had one that and its a 5 year old dell. im about to build another one, cant i just keep my computer in a colder room to keep it from overheating thus saving me some money ? or even keep a fan on it?

If you keep the computer in an air-conditioned room and you don't overclock then you should be fine with the stock coolers and case fans. If your CPU is a quad-core it will generate more heat, but even then I think you should be fine.

ive never overclocked before, and dont see any reason too unless im getting computer performance lag on games, would there be any other reason for me to overclock? i dont have any idea im totally new to building pc's

Hey, there are plenty of threads about overclocking on this forum, even a couple of detailed guides. Do a search if you're curious about that and have the time. You'll find plenty of info. The best reason to overclock IMO is when you know a lot about hardware and can't afford the best processor. You buy a less expensive processor (say E6600 at around $200) and make it deliver better performance (say, like X6800, which costs $1000) without spending too much (say, $100 on a cooler and some fans). It's not that simple, because you need to pick better types of motherboard and RAM and play with the BIOS until it all works. You might even damage things in the process. You spend days running test programs to make sure everything really works properly, etc.

Performance lag (or stuttering) in games can happen when the video card is not good enough, or when you play online and your Internet connection is slow or the server is overloaded (too many people playing), or when you don't have enough RAM and Windows keeps swapping to the hard disk. It's not necessarily your CPU's fault.

If the room is comfortable for you to be in then a stock computer will be just fine with no additional cooling.

well im actually building a system using all my old dell parts i can, and will only have about $400 to spend on everything else, altho i already have a geforce 7600 GT PCI-E im using for the vid card.

Be sure that your dell case will accept standard parts. Some dells have non standardized stuff in them and wont accept standard parts.
