Computer display not working properly

About four days ago my self-made desktop computer blue screened out of nowhere. When I restarted it there was no display on the monitor, so I tired again, and this time I got the display to work. After logging in I started checking to see if I could find out what the problem was (I had no idea what I was doing) so I started the Windows Experience Index to rate my computer. As this was working the display suddenly stopped working again. Since then I have tried clearing the CMOS and booting in safe mode, both of which had working displays, but didn't fix the problem. Whenever I run any application or program that would use the graphics card the display stops working. I don't know if this is a problem with the graphics card, or the motherboard, or something else. Can anyone help me with this? Something else I noticed is that only one of the two build in fans on the graphics card was running, but I'm not sure if this is just what it does when it is idling or if this is actually something that is wrong with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I cant reallt test the graphics card in another system or another graphics card in mine since it's the only one I have, and I have classes today but I'll get the voltage readings as soon as I can.

ok the 3.3 v is 3.240v, the 5 volt is 5.035v and the 12 is 11.994 v

I don't have a speaker to hook up to my motherboard, and I cant figure out what the bios type is. I checked the manual, but I couldn't find it. Also I found an online link to my motherboard manual if you know something i dont about finding it (you probably do)

Sorry it took so long to reply, I had finals last week and then came home. I got the speaker and plugged it in and booted up the computer, and the beep code I got was one short beep (or at least i think it was short since i dont know how long the long one is). I still cant figure out what kind of bios it has. it says UEFI in the manual but there isnt a category for that. but if it is AMI then the one beep would indicate DRAM refresh failure.

Sorry, new to the terms. how do I check if it is normal boot? and how do I run a memtest?

I don't know where I can find this information. I have looked in the manual, online, and even in the BIOS itself, but nowhere does it say whether it is AMI or IBM. The closest I have been able to find is on the BIOS screen it says ASUS UEFI BIOS Utility in the top left conrer.

here's a link to the motherboard page. I couldn't find the bios, but maybe I'm just blind. I checked the manual and the bios page and didn't see it there either.

Edit: nevermind, I fount it, AMI. it means DRAM refresh failure

Ran a memtest and it got to hammering rows and froze at 16%.

Edit: sorry, its not frozen, its just going really slow. but still at 16%

Do you have both the 6 and the 8 pin power connectors firmly attached to the GPU? If so try different combinations with the other PCI-E cables. Make sure you have the latest mobo drivers and BIOS. With the DRAM, might try taking it up + 0.05 on the DRAM voltage and see if any of these things help - then let us know

I have tried moving/cleaning the ram, and I have also tried changing the pci-e cables on the graphics card. I just tried changing the DRAM voltage (it was a little low) to 1.505, but I cant tell if it made a difference. Now when i turn it on it asks to run system repair, but after a little while it asks if I want to run a system restore, but for some reason the mouse and keyboard stop working so I cant tell it what to do (it might aslo be frozen).

Edit: I also still get the one short beep from the speaker when I turn it on.

Could be a lot of things, try resetting CMOS as i7-Baby suggested, and if no help, let's try booting into Safe Mode and run a few things if you can boot into Safe mode, try that first and see how things run and let us know, in the meantime I'll try and make a short list of things to look at and try

Well I set the bios back to defualt, and I have already tried the Cmos re-set (didnt work). I was able to log into windows by skipping the system repair, but when I tired to launch a game (to test make sure the display wouldn't die) the game just froze on the loading screen (it didnt). I was able to shut down the computer normally though.

Can you boot into Safe Mode (F8 per http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode#1TC=windows-7)

and try a Computer Repair?

and/or a System Restore (restore to last known good configuration)?

Can you do a Checkdisk with Repair on your OS drive?

And a Virus Scan eg Avast and Malwarebytes?

Resetting the CMOS was one of the first things I tried. Would resetting it again make a difference? also how do you start in safe mode? the only way I have been able to boot in safe mode is when the computer shuts down incorrectly and I get the option to.
