Computer is inconsistently freezing

Hello, I'm new to the forums and I'm not exactly sure where to post, so my apologies if I post in the wrong section.

I'm currently having troubles with my new PC (3 months old but it's been having problems since the first week I got it). My computer is freezing randomly at times from booting up to the loading screen or up to around 2 weeks before starting to freeze (constantly afterwards)

I've sent it to two tech guys and they have been unable to figure out what the issue was so I'm hoping to find an answer or solution here on the forums.

My specs are:
MSI GeForce GTX 660 Ti Power ED 1019MHZ 2GB 6.0GHZ GDDR5 2xDVI HDMI Display Port PCI-E Video Card

Intel Core i5 3570K Unlocked Quad Core Processor LGA1155 3.4GHZ Ivy Bridge 6MB Retail

Check if that ram is compatible with your mobo, 1.6v not good for ivy bridge...

^ I second the Ram. 1.6 V voids Intel's warranty. You could always run a memtestx86 and chkdsk, but I would replace that ram anyway. Get Corsair Vengeance LP 1600 MHz. $39.99 on newegg right now.

As for the ram, I've run memtestx86 and it only froze twice at completely different intervals. But I will probably end up replacing it anyways.

For the video card, is there anyway to counter act the over voltage or is it wise to pick up another video card?

before messing with the video card why not try different ram and see what happens ?..........

in the future you could run (maybe) MSI after burner and under clock the video cards ram and processor a little. but wouldn't touch it until the above was done.

If your graphics card is effected by the overvolting issue MSI should replace it, from the sounds of the article, it was a hardware mechanism that does the overvolting, so any potential solution would involve a soldering iron and a voided warranty.

If memtestx86 is freezing there's your problem. Get the RAM I suggested.

Hi again, sorry for the late reponse.

I was just finally able to get a new stick of ram:

Patriot Viper 3 8GB 2X4GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24 1.5V Dual Channel Memory Kit - Black Mamba

However the computer still freezes regardless. And it's been freezing quite frequently recently actually.

I'm not sure what else to do so if there are any other suggestions, I'd appreciate it

is the heat sink squarely attached to the processor? are all pins seated correctly through the motherboard?

you checked every wire at both ends to see that they are securely fastened ?

did you try resetting the cmos ?

do you have any other hardware you can swap out.... power supply/video card, etc. ?

i didn't read the link about the video card so know nothing about that.

I checked the heat sink and CPU, everything's hooked up as it should be.

Wiring seems okay as well

I'm not sure what CMOS is or how to reset that.

I've also tried to swap the power supply but it did not help. However I do not have a spare video card to test that unfortunately.

I also noticed an odd split second buzzing sound the moment I boot up the computer after a hard reset.

buzzing sound.......... could be a capacitor ? if this wasn't pre-built and you knew what you were doing I'd tell you to disassemble and reassemble......... but let's not.

cmos........... if you can't find the jumper.......... with machine off, remove battery ( that big nickle sized shiny thing on the motherboard ).......... put back in after a few seconds. that will set machine back to "stock". maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't. boot up.
