Computer lockup

I recently installed a GeForce 5600 FX Ultra (400MHz), Sound Blaster Audigy X-gamer, 512 Meg PC 2100 ram and a 430 watt power supply, now, my processor seems to be overheating and causing the computer to lockup. It now idles at 63°C. I have a fan on the heatsink, a fan that redirects that airflow out of the back of the case, a fan in the middle of the case that blows across the heatsink, a fan on thd video card, and a fan in the front of the case.

MOBO: ASUS A7A266
CPU: Athalon XP 1900
Ram: 512 Meg Kingston (I think) PC 2100
Sound: SB Audigy X-Gamer
Video: GeForce 5600 Ultra

I currently have the side off the case and the box pulled out of its cubby in the desk. Do AMD processors become hotter the older they are? Why would adding the video card, ram and sound card affect cpu temp? Would updating BIOS help (if so, how do you do that...)? I have tried blowing a house fan into the open case, and that seems to help some, but I can still get a lock up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

do you know if you have a palamino or tbred core athlon?

when you add the house fan what do the temps go down too?

What powersupply (brand) are you using?

It sounds like you just upgraded the card...what card did you upgrade from?

If i put my k6 in a Ferrari it would be faster than your your pentium 4 or Athlon XP :tongue:

Oh, i also want to add that it is running at 1.7V. Not that this means anything to me, but I've seen some posts stating if voltage is lower, the cpu will run cooler? how will that affect performance?

Well running at a lower voltage means less heat yes... But It has to be within acceptable range for the cpu otherwise it will randomly lockup or give glitchy behavior.

Tbird and Palomino XP's ran at 1.75v, though depending on the core they could run on a voltage as low as 1.6v (depending on chip particulars)
Tbred mostly run at 1.65v, though the low speed variants also ran at 1.6v or 1.5v.

Sorry, PIII Man, I thought I had already answered your questions...

Not sure if it is T-bird of palamino (leaning twords palamino though).

House fan only drops temp by 2 to 3 degrees.

The powersupply is a Thermaltake

The old video card was a GeForce MX 100/200.

i would reseat your heatsink...also invest in some thermal paste such as artic sliver 3...sounds to me like you cpu is overheating...

it also sounds like your heatsink is not making good contact with the core because...with a house fan blowing into your case...the temps should be MUCH lower...like below 50c

That board is notorious for reporting wrong temps, even in BIOS. I doubt you're running that hot.
