Hello people of Tomshardware. I have recently bought the parts for a custom build. Yesterday, I put the computer together, and when I tried to turn it on, it didn't work. There was absolutely no response when I pressed the power button. After some troubleshooting, I came to the realization that it was probably the power switch cable plugged into my motherboard. I have the MSI 970A mobo and it says there is only one port and one position to put the case cables in. I tried unplugging all the cables and plugging them back in. Nothing seems to work. Please help me.

Did you also plu the 8 pin power cable to the motherboard? The 24 pin will only plug in one way. Any PSU can be faulty but
Corsair tends to be one of the best brands. If it continues to not turn on, you can remove the connectors front the front paneland try to power it on by putting a screw driver on both of the MB power switch fans.

Chances are you have not mounted the motherboard properly when you put the brass standoffs you MUST have ones only where the screw holes on the motherboard are 1 to many and it will ground your motherboard preventing boot.

First thing i would do is remove your motherboard and power supply put your motherboard on a clean non-conductive surface and plug the power supply and cpu power 8pin connector to the motherboard.

find the front panel connector and use a small screwdriver and touch both leads of the power connector momentarily.

If it boots look at the case and check the brass standoffs with holes on motherboard remove any that don't have a hole on the motherboard.

remount and plug everything back in then try it again.

Although it's a hassle to pull everything back out, I agree with techguy911's recommendation to put the MB on a piece of cardboard and start testing, piece by piece. Remove all components from the MB, then Plug the PSU in to the MB and see if the MB light comes on. If it doesn't light up. you can do a quick test to see if the PSU is working. Here's a good guide:

If the paper clip test shows that the PSU is working, it's the MB.

I think that is the first thing he would of checked out. :pt1cable: More likely there was something wrong with the motherboard, power supply unit or maybe even the polarity of the power switch wires (by swaping these on,off button wires to the front panel you'll will again switch polarity).

Check the wires that come from the front panel. The shut down & turn on button wires. 😉 You could of put the wrong wire into the wrong plug. 😉 There is positive & negative wires (Ground is another term). 😉 You'll just have to reverse these wires to see if you have plugged into the wrong motherboard socket fittings. :)

I think "Wish I Was Wealthy" has got it right. I can not see it being anything else, but the the wires that you did not put into the right sockets either. But I could be wrong and it could be a motherboard fault or a psu fault.
