Hello. I have a problem with my computer , i just upgraded it , bought a new motherboard and cpu , and when im trying to run it now , it just gets to windows loading screen and restarts or freezes my screen with strange blue screen on top and black screen bottom. I have tried changing ram slots (i have only 1 ram stick) unplugging everything and plugging back , basicly everything

did you reload windows?? wiht a new mb the chipset drivers for the mb wont match and will cause windows to boot loop. you have two options. place the hard drive into another pc to back your data up you need then wipe it and reload windows. or try booting into safe mode on the old drive and removing all of the old drivers or find an another drive and install clean copy of windows on it then fix the old drive.

The thing is that i am trying to get into safe mode & trying to run my usb(windows installation) but it always restarts , so what i need to do? Can i go to my internet cafe , with my HDD and ask them to clear it? Or what?
Basicly , the question is how do i delete my old drive? Cause its freshly installed

I'm currently wiping all my files from my HDD with DBAN , and after that i will try to reinstall windows , ill see what is happening and will post some information :)

What motherboard? What CPU?
This is windows 8 yes?
You say you have a USB with windows in it?

Safe Mode
This is a trick I have used to force boot into windows repair. which will then give you the option for safe mode. When you boot up and get to the spinning dots
spinning-circle.png
Hold the power button and force shutdown.
Turn on the PC again and it should say something like automatic repair then fail and take you to another screen.

then you click troubleshoot

Before I tell you how to safe mode

If all you want to do is reinstall windows then select refresh your pc, it will reinstall and no files will be lost. Or go to advanced options (see pic below) and try a system restore. If you do not care about your files, Select Reset your PC this will reinstall and erase all data.

Continuing onto safe mode
click advanced options

Then you click startup settings
Then you agree, it will auto reboot and show you keys to press so you can enter safe mode.

The above did not work?

  • go into the bios, and set your USB with windows as your boot device.

if it does not allow you to boot to the Flash drive, run the windows 8.1 media creation tool on another PC to make the USB flash drive bootable https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8

If it did boot it should show you the familiar windows installation screen

    Click Install Now

    Accept License Agreement

Still want to delete everything? skip to deleting everything
When the option is displayed to select an installation type, click (Custom Advanced)
select the disk partition where you would like to install Windows 8 Click Next.

You will receive the following warning:
The partition you selected might contain files from a previous Windows Installation. If it does, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will not be able to use your previous version of Windows.

do not click anything named Format or Delete or Partition. So even doing a custom install, your personal files are still preserved. Click OK

Setup will now start the installation. During the installation, your machine will be restarted several times.

When the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience such as selecting your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone.

You should then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows

You can recover your personal files from the Windows.old folder located (usually) at C:\Windows.old then reinstall all your applications and drivers.

deleting everything

  • when you get to the part where you select the drive you want to install to Make Sure You Do Not Select The USB Drive in this list (If it shows up).

Select your HDD press the delete option and delete all of the partitions as well (unless you want to keep a specific partition).

Then select the format option to reformat the drive.

Partition it if you want to.

    Then continue

Setup will now start the installation. During the installation, your machine will be restarted several times.

When the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience such as selecting your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone.

You should then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows

I couldnt have done any off the top things , so last thing i thought i could do was that i could delete the files with DBAN , cause i couldnt get into repair tool or windows.
And im currectly running :
I3 550 3.2
MSI GTX750ti
4 GB RAM 667

I gave you a way to do it without having to get into windows, or using the repair tool.... It is under the bold title "The above did not work"

All you needed was the USB stick you said you had windows inside of.

If the USB drive wasn't bootable then you could make it bootable as I also said in my previous post
(If you can run DBAN you can run the media creation tool. )
"if it does not allow you to boot to the Flash drive, run the windows 8.1 media creation tool on another PC to make the USB flash drive bootable https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windo... "

Anyway, did you get it to work after you used DBAN?

that is why I included the link to the media creation tool.
After wiping your drive were you able to use the USB to install windows? Or does it still freeze?

I just want to know if you managed to fix your problem?

Can you help me with the media creation tool? What do i do? I know that i need 2nd computer to do that , but what else?

all data inside the USB Drive Will be lost
You also need an internet connection.

Basically when it runs it will ask you what operating system you want to install 8.1 home, pro, server, etc
and architecture x64 or x32
Then it will ask you if you are using it for a disk or a USB drive.
Then it will ask you which USB drive (just eject all the unnecessary ones)
Then it will download windows to the USB drive
Then it will tell you it is done
Eject the USB
Plug in the USB to the PC you wish to install windows to
Since you now have a blank Hard drive
it should hopefully default to booting from the USB.
If it doesn't you will have to open up your bios and set the USB as the primary boot drive.
This is usually in a tab in the bios called "Boot"
And can be found in your motherboard manual index under bios, boot settings, or something like that.
The USB drive might show up twice. Once as the brand name of the USB and another one saying something about windows. Select the one that says something about windows. (ill reboot and tell you what it will likely say. But i'm sure you will know which one it is. )

Edit Since my usb is brand UFD 3.0 Silicon-Power8G PMAP it shows up once as the full brand name
and then once as UEFI: UFD 3.0 Silicon Power8G PMAP, Partition 1
you would want to select the UEFI....Partition1 and set it as the primary boot device.

Well. I just put in the USB and its currently again in the loop , it just gets to windows screen , then sits there for about 5-10 seconds and restarts. :///
But the restarts are strange , cause pc keeps running , but monitor/periphials shut down and turn back on

This is with it set to boot from the USB in the bios? or simply plugging it in? Are you certain it is not booting from the disk?

You mentioned buying a New motherboard and a new CPU.

What is the board.

Is your motherboard on the latest bios?

Is your display plugged into the GPU or the motherboard i/o
try plugging it into the motherboard i/o (ports on the back) and running it using the iGPU on your i3

So. The motherboard is HP ms 7613 ver 2.0 motherboard , i have my monitor plugged into motherboards interface , and dont know about the bios updates , But it says its on bios recision 6.09 and core version is 08.00.15

earlier you stated you are using 4 GB RAM 667? This is DDR2 RAM yes?
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02014355/
the motherboard specs state it only supports DDR3

"DDR3 is not backwards compatible with DDR2. While both types of modules have similar numbers of pins, the notches in the PCB are in different locations. In other words, a DDR3 module cannot be placed in a DDR2 memory socket, and vice-versa." http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/support-memory-ddr2-ddr3-compare

It would have to come from HP
http://support.hp.com/us-en

I doubt you can update it outside of windows. /:

I'm pretty certain your bios supports booting from USB since it is a version 2.0

try clearing the CMOS
1gouw1.png

then booting and pressing F11 like mad. I believe F10 is for the bios/setup and press F11 for boot devices. Check if the flash drive is listed in the hard disks section. If so, then set it as the boot drive.

If you boot without the flash drive will it still cause you loops? If yes then you probably didn't boot from the USB and the drive might not have been properly wiped. (although it is not necessary to wipe it)
If you are using a USB port on the front of the PC, switch to the drive to one on the back.
Or try another USB port one of the 2 lone ports near the optical audio outpout.
Try a different Flashdrive.

Honestly at this point I'm sorry but I have no clue why it wont even properly boot the USB to the installation screen.
You said you have the display connected directly to the motherboard try the Graphics card instead?

Do you have a DVD you can use with the media creation tool?

Do you have a windows 7 DVD lying around somewhere that you can install a trial version with and then upgrade to 8 from the desktop?

I don't think I can contribute anything further.
Maybe there is something wrong with the motherboard itself?

I have win8 disk , i can try that , i will try the cmos , and should i try cmos when my pc is on?
Also , my pc is indead in loops everything i do.
I will try the solutions you said and will edit this :)

DO NOT clear the CMOS with the PC on then you will definitely fry the board :ouch:

Definitely boot from the disk if you have it , USB installations can be troublesome with pre UEFI boards.

So. I havent fixed my pc. And i've been wondering , can that be the HDD problem?

Hello, Sorry to hear that. I also would like to apologize for my late reply I was busy yesterday.

Well, you say the peripherals turn on and off during boot but the system stays on. If it was a HDD error I don't think that it would do that. Could you take a video of the process? And upload it to YouTube unlisted. And either post it here or PM it to me. Could you also include a view of the setup/bios and the f11 boot menu with the HDD, USB and DVD inside.

I think that it is more likely to be the motherboard than the HDD but you may test another HDD if you have one available. I know that you can get a cheapy no brand1TB for $35 on amazon 500GB or lower should be even cheaper. But I highly doubt it is the drive.

Could it be the PSU failing to supply power properly? I highly doubt it, but for the sake of ruling out all components could you please include a detailed list of all your parts. (i.e: look at my signature)
If possible can you include pictures of the setup and wiring? Or include it on the video? (If you are unable to take a video can you take photos, lots of photos, include all error codes if any and detail all beeps if any are given by the pc, make sure the pc isn't set to "fast boot" in the bios/setup. (Also how comfortable would you say you are navigating the bios? On a scale of 1-10, is this a prebuilt [if yes what model] or a self build? [if yes is it your first time?))

A simple way to test the drive is, does it show up and work on another pc? You said you ran DBAN on it I am assuming you did so on another PC. If so then the drive is likely working.

Does the PC also fail to boot from the DVD?

Could you detail the process in which you attempt the install?

Are you 100% certain you are booting from the DVD?

You says you get boot loops no matter what? What happens if you turn on the PC with no HDD
Just the main board, CPU, Ram, mouse, keyboard, and Monitor.

What happens if you do the same and turn it on with the DVD inside?

Have you tested the RAM?

Last resort... Have you attempted to contact a professional in your area? If you're tight on money you could go to a local college and see if a computer science major is willing to take a look at your pc.
