Hey guys I am Yuki,

I am trying to figure out what CPU to upgrade to.

My specs:
i5-6500
GTX 1060 GB
8gb ddr3 ram 2133mhz

In alot of heavier/unoptimized games my CPU(100%) bottlenecks my GPU(30-60%)
I was looking at some processors and found that an AMD processor would be a great upgrade,
But is it? I was thinking about the ryzen 7 2700x

Thanks

While I cant argue with a ryzen 2700x being a worthy upgrade I will mention that the i5 6500 and a 1060 gb are a fairly well matched pair, I've ran the same combo and had no issues in any title at 1080p. You probs could do with a ram upgrade though, 16gb 3000mhz dual channel could give your system a new lease of life.

The i5 9600k is a good choice, if you do not want to replace your motherboard, but the Ryzen 7 2700x is a better choice.
They are both on sale.
Mhm yeah true better to not replace my motherboard, I also just found another i5, the i5 9400f which has no integrated GPU doesn't matter. Looked like a very good deal considering the price

Right now 195 euros is $213 USD. If that is your final budget, that makes your decision pretty simple, as a new Ryzen 7 3700x is going for $329 USD. The i7 6700k would work on your motherboard, but still going above your budget unless you find a deal.

What games are you playing that a hogging your CPU?

Arma 3, squad and Pubg did but haven't played it in a while so don't know.

Yeah. I was thinking of suggesting the 9400f + the 9600k, but did not want to add too much, info that seemed to be repetitive.

Ryzen is a much better option, the motherboard for the i5-6500 and the 8th/9th gen are NOT the same.
You are wrong.
The i5 6500 is a 6th gen processor, but it still uses the same CPU socket type as the 9600k.
This is where I got the relevant specifications from: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...5-6500-processor-6m-cache-up-to-3-60-ghz.html
That uses the lga1151 socket.

This is the i5 9600k:
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/processors/core/core-vpro/i5-9600k.html
They use the same socket type right?
Just because it is part of a different generation than the 9600k, that does not neccesarily mean that they use different socket types.
Nice try though.😏:nan::nan::welcome:

No haha u are actually wrong the 8th and 9th generation use the lga1151 V2 socket 😁

This is factually incorrect. Regardless of the socket type, you must have a compatible chipset (and often a BIOS update) to use the 9th gen CPU.
