Hello, recently I upgraded my system from i5 6600K to Ryzen 3700x

Parts list -

CPU - Ryzen 3700x
GPU - Nvidia GTX 980
MOBO - Asus TUF gaming x570-plus
PSU - Antec HCP1000 Platinum
RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series F4-3200C16S-8GVKB 2x8GB

In the beginning, I had bought Gigabyte x570 aorus elite but I couldn't even install windows on it. 9/10 it crashes within 10-30 seconds from booting up windows installation. I tried different windows versions after manyyyyyyyy attempts windows finally installed without any bsod but then after a while it started crashing again frequently mostly when idling. After a couple of days of troubleshooting, i gave up and got the MOTHERBOARD, RAM, and CPU replaced.

a few days ago I got the new parts but different motherboard i choose to go with Asus. So in this build Windows installed without any crash so I installed all the necessary latest drivers updated the bios and all once all set i started stress testing.

Asus RealBench for 2 hours with max temp around 75c
AIDA64 for an hour
and MemTest86 each stick for 8 passes (XMP off) and then both together for 4 passes (XMP ON) and the result was without any error.

After all the stress test i was quite happy that the system didn't crash but then i left the system idle for an hour and when i came back it had restarted and when i check "Whocrashed" it was KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE module: ntkrnlmp.exe

So far I've been using the system for 2 days and got multiple bsod not as bad as it was before but its still annoying. BSOD only happens when the system is idling or when I'm brosing the internet watching YT and stuff but not always sometimes no crash even after 2-3 hours of idle but sometimes as soon as I come back and move the mouse when its idling it crashes.

yesterday I changed one bios setting called "Power supply idle control" from Auto to "Typical current idle" and since then I only had one crash that is CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION module: hal.dll

It's been more than 24 hours without any crash so I'm kinda confused about what's wrong.... Is it bad hardware again or just buggy bios?

Here are the crash dump files when bios setting "Power supply idle control" was set to AUTO

https://filebin.net/t1stzuwfrmfsqbsz/100519-8046-01.dmp?t=8efw0wnh

https://filebin.net/t1stzuwfrmfsqbsz/100519-8062-01.dmp?t=8efw0wnh

Crash dump after changing bios setting "Power supply idle control" from AUTO to "Typical current idle"

https://filebin.net/t1stzuwfrmfsqbsz/100619-7875-01.dmp?t=8efw0wnh

Just one crash after the bios setting change so idk if it's just a random crash or not but it been well over 24 hours without any bsod when idling, light usage or gaming.

Thanks a lot for reading, I'd love to know what you guys think about this :)

@Colif Hi, I've run driver verifier and noticed the system booted slower anyway right after booting within 10 seconds i got BSOD - logi_joy_vir_hid.sys and logi_joy_bus_enum.sys I assumed these are for joystick so I just booted to safe mode and deleted them from drivers folder ( link to the files here - https://filebin.net/9od25xq3infw95ho ) now I don't see them in driver verifier list so i assume these drivers won't load anymore.

minidump - https://filebin.net/ji2t6yb6i2jojfix

Weird thing was that i got a total of 4 crashes but only 2 gave BSOD. 1st was bsod then 2nd and 3rd time it just restarted as if someone clicked the RESET button, 4th was bsod.

Here's the screenshot of drivers list - View: https://imgur.com/a/eGpJMPg

I'll tick NVIDIA and AMD drivers if there's no crash for those ticked within an hour.

Edit - Just restarted the system worked fine for 10 mins and then opened HWINFO64 and got BSOD module: hwinfo64a.sys

dump - https://filebin.net/sjiqrsu6va607qhd so now I'm gonna untick this one and continue.

Edit 2 - System couldn't even boot. While loading windows it kept resetting itself until the windows started auto recovery.

Apr 02 2018logi_joy_vir_hid.sysLogitech Joystick driver

Just prior to verifier calling an issue - and which would go back to one of the drivers identified earlier too.

You can likely find software download from here: https://www.logitech.com/en-gb
Alternatively, disable it with Autoruns and see if issue persists.

only query is the symbol problem it outlines - which not sure if it is pdb related or memory corruption potentially causing a bit of a nuisance.

@PC Tailor I'm running the latest version of G HUB but those joy drivers causing BSOD and I can't really give up on G HUB because it's the only way to configure keys/macros so i just deleted those joy drivers file. I'll see what I can do with Autoruns.

@Colif I've run driver verifier for well over 8 hours now without any crash. Only Nvidia drivers left which I'll do in an hour.

So far only logi_joy and hwinfo64a.sys caused BSOD within seconds.

Edit- PC won't boot with nvidia drivers selected same thing which happened earlier pc kept resetting itself while loading windows right after post screen. Not sure if that's normal. It's the latest driver btw.

that doesn't sound normal to me.

I don't know why you think the latest Nvidia drivers match a GTX 980. I would be more inclined to run DDU and run windows update afterwards and let Microsoft find drivers for it, they likely to be more stable (they older drivers from Nvidia) - https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq...n-install-of-your-video-card-drivers.2402269/

I have a 980 as well, I haven't used new drivers from Nvidia all year. I see lots of people with errors with them though.

What is difference between G Hub & LGS? reddit link Can't you use LGS anymore? Notices its replaced LGS and he is a little behind. More color schemes on my G910... weee

Sorry, i forgot to mention that I have upgraded to RTX 2070 super yesterday before running the driver verifier. So since yesterday no crashes but I can't boot windows if i tick nvidia drivers in verifier everything else works fine without crash.

I have removed G HUB and installed LGS but it also has joy_virtual drivers which i managed to remove using Autorun so far no crash.

they are going to be the newest drivers so maybe the problem is the hardware and not the drivers themselves?

At least G Hub isn't displaying at my screens native value (4k) as I needed a microscope to read LGS (funny how we swapped directions)

So my gpu is the problem? idk i'm so confused right now... I thought it was G HUB causing issue so i removed it today.... I've been gaming since yeaterday no crash so far.

Edit - So i tried to run driver verifier on my other stable intel system which has gtx 980 (driver 436.15) started verifier.exe and there was only one driver related to NVIDIA named - nvlddmkm.sys however there's 4 drivers in my main system with rtx 2070s anyway so i ran the test with nvlddmkm.sys ticked and it booted up just fine no crash bsod.

Now i tried the same with just one driver ticked nvlddmkm.sys on my main system here's the ss View: https://imgur.com/a/uKVTvez
and as expected the system booted just fine so I'm not sure which one or the other three drivers caused my system to not boot while all 4 of them ticked the last time i tried...... I guess/hope my gpu is fine. I will be running it today and hope system doesn't crash : )

the new drivers are way more likely to work fine with a 2070 compared to the 980. Its possible it was the combo of new drivers and gtx 980 that was causing BSOD.

G Hub may also be a problem, sometimes you find one problem just to have to solve another :)

I know you did say in post its fixed but if not

I would say your ram is the culprit here. I have the same ram module and i have same problem. Setting cstate to off and power typical to idle decreases the crash. What i found to be more effective is setting i think in windows power profile to Ryzen optimized if you installed chipset driver from MB website . Not sure

I use Linux. This happens on all Linux(Multi distro and multi kernel) what seems to fix is setting CPU scaling governor to performance, Which runs my 3600 at 3.8 and up GHz. Crash/freeze do happen once in a week which i think is not related to this.

Hi, I believe my issue is really fixed because I haven't had any crash yet and I think it's just bios or software compatibility issue but I could be wrong.

So here's what i did -

c-state - Enabled
power supply idle control - Auto
Overclocked the ram - 3600 @1.36v 17-16-16-32
-Offset - 0.50

And I disabled core performance boost so now my system doesn't jump from 1v to 1.5 volt every time I move my mouse : D this helps with temps overall and yes I do lose some performance but it's not noticeable.

I have made OC profiles in Ryzen Master. 1st 4000 @1.2v and 2nd 4200 @1.36
Default - 3600 @0.95xxvolts

FPS difference isn't that bad compared to temps

everything STOCK while gaming the temp usually goes above 60c with voltage around 1.356-1.45 @4200~

with core performance boost disabled temps under 45c @3600 0.95v

OC profiles -
4000 @1.2v 52c
4200 @1.36 58c
from 4ghz to 4.2 there's really no fps improvement tried many games so i just toggle 4ghz oc while gaming.

Been more than a week without any crash.

Thank you, This helped a lot.
I disabled core boost, Enabled CPU scaling all is good. Overclocked cpu to 4Ghz still stable.

Now.
  1. Core Boost - Disabled
  2. Cstate - Enabled
  3. Power Idle - Low
  4. Ram - 3200Mhz(above that some steam opengl games quit in middle)
  5. CPU - 4 Ghz(with scaling enabled)

Pretty damn stable. If i boot a Livecd before it would hang within few minute , Now its not. I kept it on for a day with full stress test and idle test still no freezes. This problem had me so frustrated/angry for going ryzen way. I have been struggling with this for months until i found out the scaling cpu to performance mode was making everything stable. Now you findings are much better, I Should have pieced this together while AMD was having problem with boost frequency lately and trying to fix things with agesa kinda frequent update.
