Question: What is the future of the Core i7 920 processor? Its a great processor and its served me well these last 3 years, but I want a better motherboard. I've tried googling this information, but nothing current gives me the answer I'm looking for, so I'm coming to the experts. Can the Core i7 920 processor work with the x79 motherboards? or do I have to upgrade to a newer processor to use that motherboard. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

i7 920 processors use the LGA 1366 socket.
x79 motherboards use the LGA 2011 socket.

So, you either dump the processor+mobo and buy an x79/lga2011 combo (you need deep pockets) or overclock it. I would go for the latter.

No, the X79 chipset is for socket 2011 and supports memory in a quad channel mode. The Intel® Core™ i7-920 is a very nice processor that uses socket 1366 and is designed to work in a triple channel mode for the memory. For the Intel Core i7-920 you are going to be focusing on an X58 chipset based board. With the release of the 2nd generation Intel Core processors like the Intel Core i7-3930K and the Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition in socket 2011, the socket 1366 and the processors supported on it are being phased out, so you are going to have a hard time finding any newer boards with this chipset.
