How can i know if my HDD is corrupted ? I keep having these disk writting errors, failed to install a few windows update patches, etc

I would love any help i can get with this...i have a brand new custom built comp and every time i try to install something i seem to have a problem.

Solution
The easiest way to find out whether or not there is a problem with your HDD is to go to launch the command line in elevated mode. In the start menu, type "cmd" (Windows Vista / 7). Right click on cmd.exe and choose "Run as Admin". Enter "chkdsk C: /r", where "C:" is the letter for the drive you want to check. Press Enter.

It is likely you have to restart your computer to run the scan (e.g. when checking system disk).
