Question Cost Effective Raid Card for Samsung SSDs

I am looking for a cost effective RAID Card to use for:

Samsung 990 PRO 2TB Samsung V NAND 3-bit MLC PCIe Gen 4​

Any thoughts. I do not want to spend $600 on a card if at all possible.

Spend the $6 on a birthday card.
You will get the same performance.


Raid of any kind on a ssd is really useless.
Raid-0 will not improve performance and may actually hurt.
Raid 1/2/... for backup is better accomplished by using external backup.

Do you have thunderbolt or USB 4? That would be what I would use these days.

Lightning bolt/PC meltdown/random short can still take out both drives in a mirror.

The value of raid-1 and it's variants like raid-5 is that you can recover from a drive failure quickly. It is for servers that can not tolerate any interruption.
Modern hard drives have a advertised mean time to failure on the order of 500,000+ hours. SSD devices are similar, if not better. That is something like 50 years.
With raid-1 you are protecting yourself from specifically a drive failure. Not from other failures such as viruses, operator error,
malware, raid controller failure fire, theft, etc.
For that, you need external backup. If you have external backup, and can tolerate a couple of hours recovery time, you do not need raid-1

Yeah, RAID is not a backup solution. It's an availability solution. If this is what you're using for backup, then your data are at risk.

RAID 1 is for zero down-time for that specific machine. It's not much of a backup method. If you don't want to spend $600 on it, zero down-time for that PC probably isn't a real requirement for you.
