Could use some help overclocking. E8400 & UD3P

I am having some trouble overclocking my e8400 on my Gigabyte UD3P.

Current settings are:
FSB: 423 (*9 = 3.8 GHz)
Vcore: 1.35 (in bios, 1.328 in cpu-z)
VTT: 1.28
MCH: 1.3
ICH: 1.2
ICH I/O: 1.6
Everything else is auto


Using OCCT 3.0 to stress test. Temps never go above 63, but i am getting errors within the first 20 minutes.

I don't think its the ram holding me back cause it passed 4.5 hours (8 passes) of memtest86+ (its default is 800 5-5-5-18@1.8v, currently im running it at 846 5-5-5-18@2.0v)

The Vcore seems like it should be high enough, so my fist though was either the Northbridge or CPU VTT needs to be raised, but im really not an expert overclocker so i figured i would bring this to you before i do anything that could potentially damage my machine.


Any help you could provide would be fantastic

If it helps i tried setting everything to auto except vcore to 1.3625 and still no go. Im running OCCT again at stock settings. Ill post back when the results are in

Im gonna try bumping the northbride voltage up a bit more and decrease the overclock by a small amount (maybe hit a dead FSB section?) and prime95 small ffts it.

Any other ideas and advice would be appreciated

Set FSB termination at 1.28v. I have my Q9650 at 3.8Ghz currently and only 1.3v vcore.

um...isn't the FSB termination voltage just another name for VTT? (which is currently set at 1.28 already)

Currently i bumped up the MCH, ICH, and VTT a few notches and am running prime95 small ffts and it seems to be working thus far (~30 minutes without errors). I'm gonna let it run overnight and if it is still error free tomorrow ill working on bringing the voltages down.

That's OCing............If you only needed to change the FSB and Vcore it would be tooooo easy.

Just for ref, I have my E8400 (E0) at 490X8.5 (4.165 Ghz) @ 1.2 vtt, 1.4 mch, 1.28v vcore, 1.5 pll......may want to set the GTLref voltages also. Good luck.

Ok i am in need of serious help.

My current settings are (im just trying to find something stable, ill lower the voltages later):
FSB - 423 (* 9 = 3.8 GHz)
vcore - 1.3625
MCH - 1.4
ICH - 1.3
VTT - 1.34

Under these settings my system will pass Prime95 small ffts 8 hour test, but will fail on the blend test after 10 minutes, indicating memory (even though the memory passed 4 hours of memtest)

My memory is rated for:
Voltage: 1.9
Speed: 800
Timings - 5-5-5-18

My current memory settings are:
DRAM volage - 2.08
Speed - 846
Timings - 6-6-6-18

Under these settings Prime95 blend test is still failing, but if i lower the timings to 7-7-7-18 my computer wont post. Is there anything else i can do to get the memory stable? I saw settings for MCH/DRAM Reference and DRAM termination, but im not sure what either of those do or if increasing them will help.

Also there are two options on my board to set the memory at a 1:1 ratio, one of them is 2.00B and the other is 2.00D. Im trying to locate the difference between them right now, but if anyone has any info on that i would greatly applicate it

With the price of 1066 ram so low now, you may want to invest in some so you can take the memory out of the equation.

You can always find out for sure by lowering the OC (fsb and mutiplier) then use the memory multiplier to see how far you can push the ram so you know for sure.

2.00B is the 333 strap, 2.00D is the 400 strap (looser), you should stick to D for the time being until you get every thing else sorted out.
