The people who can't take a joke (or handle losing to cheaters in games) are usually the ones stabbing people. Seems like the Chinese are the ones that like to stab, Americans the ones who like to shoot, and the Koreans are the ones that commit gaming suicide (playing so long that they die of attrition or their newborn baby does).

Yeah, this situation is absurd, feel sorry for the kid that got stabbed, but seriously, don't get mad about these comments that you feel like stabbing them...

Was this over money or something? I mean like thousands of dollars? I have read through all the comments, and I still can't wrap my head around this. I love my games, and I hate cheaters, cause the reason for playing is pride. But OMG, to stab someone in the freakin head? Some people take life (or the lack there of) too seriously.

Someone needs to start keeping a list of all these videogame related crimes, not to paint gaming in the negative but just because I'm curious. I'd think it hilarious if it totals higher than crimes associated with things like hard drugs.

I doubt it, mostly because along with drug addiction serious money gets involved, so you deal with not just addicts, but police, and greedy thieves stealing drugs and/or money.

I am one of the people who's message was removed. But was in no way, shape, or form thought this was OK, at ALL.

This is really just messed up on so many levels. Taking it to this extreme over a game in an internet cafe?!? Really!?!

I agree that this shouldn't be taken lightly.

But, I do agree that something should have happened to him for hacking. Like thrown out, never to come back to that internet cafe. Stabbing someone over this is just not OK, on so many levels.

"Doctors say that the 17-year-old boy was lucky that the knife did not damage the intracranial blood vessels."

I guarantee that the knife damaged intracranial blood vessels. Maybe just not big ones.

Knife to the head for cheating.. Um ya that's just a tad extreme. I could understand maybe sucker punching. But that's kids these days, knifes and guns. Rarely is it like it used to be fight a little but both walk/limp away. Were if your friends jumped in you would be laughed at for being a bitch, but now it's the cool thing to do.

Leaves me wondering... OK somebody was cheating & a fight breaks out, ok got that... But really, think about it. Some knucklehead had to bring a knife BEFORE any of this happened. If they had been to the same cafe' and experienced this person cheating on prior occasions, and then planned on getting revenge on the cheater, this makes it a much more serious crime.

Who really bring a big steak knife to an internet cafe' anyway?

The ironic thing is that it looks like damage to frontal cortex was done. This is the area of the brain that handels impulse control. Meaning that when this kid recovers, he may not have very good impulse control himself.

stabbing someone for cheating is along the same line as road rage when someone cuts you off. Its definitely a human problem, not just gamers.

cheaters never win. . .

the worst ive ever seen at a lan when someone caught a cheater was they threw his pc on the road and it smashed then threw him out.

some countries will cut off your hand for stealing an apple i mean, no wonder google pulled out of china!

nothing in the article regarding the attacker . . . . like punishment?

The next time I get mad about hitting someone in the head in CS and they don't die, I'll remember it's akin to real life and I won't be so frustrated about it.

Wow. I enjoy gaming, but people are taking it too far. Who knows what warped sensibilities will be viewed as normal in 10, 20, 50 years. I fear for our civilization.

I can't believe he's still alive, let alone still conscious through the whole thing! Gotta wonder what the long term damage will be, or if the brain can (mostly) heal itself with little side effects.

... there is stupid gamers in the world and most of them don't use the brain... it's clear to see... knife in the skull, but conscious... not much brain usage there... and cheating is proof of it...

What makes this any different than killing someone over cheating in poker? I know money is involved with poker, but often not much. The thing is you're still stealing something from someone be it pride or money.

And in no way do I condone killing, but trying to understand WHY someone would do this and realizing that this has been going on probably since the beginning of humanity. If it's not over one thing (say a girl) it's over something else (cheating) and has nothing to do with the violence in video games IMHO.

Here's why... As our population increases and video games, TV violence or whatever also increase in popularity wouldn't you think that violent crime would be on the rise? How many times have you heard "it's much worse now than ever, you cant keep your doors unlocked or you'll get raped". Trust me people, it's the proliferation of communication methods (internet, TV, satellite) that makes people FEEL this way in a much more effective way.

Violent crime statistics:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_the_United_States

The news would make you feel that violent crime was at an all time high. Of course I am only referring to America here, but still...

I can't stand cheat, but damn... This is on another level... Been playing fifa 10 for 3 days now and 90% of the people keep quiting, so i barely record any wins... It's like folks don't know how or want to lose anymone... I come from 3 or more goals down to get the lead and they quit in the 90th minutes... It's a damn shame... Lol!

Eh, I don't have sympathy for hackers and cheaters. They try to ruin games for people and think the internet is anonymous and that they can do what they want. And just like with any other game like sports or cards or anything, if you're caught cheating, things can turn violent. There would definitely be less hackers if the anonymity and limitless range of the internet didn't protect them.

On the other hand, I've been falsely accused of wallhacking and other kinds of cheating so many times because 90% of the people who play online games can't tell the difference between hacks and skill. And when someone gets owned online, their instinct will be to accuse the other player of hacking, and then other people will join in, and it turns into a mob of bitches who don't know what they're talking about. Admins are the worst. Mop the floor with an admin on his server, and he'll accuse you of hacking and ban you, or he'll ban you just because he can and doesn't like the competition.
