Hi,
For those who know, im looking into buying the thermalright 120 ultra extreme when its released, but the regula one weighs around 1kg so im not so confident now.

Can anyone tell me if there are any cpu coolers that are excellent at cooling (Obviously there won't be any as good as the 120, but perhaps ranked just below it?) & weigh around 500-700g?

I like the zalman 9700 one, but because of my cabling set up, its a bit dodgy atm.

thanks
Darren

Arctic freezer pro 7 520g inc. fan.

I second this. I actually just took my freezer pro 7 off and replaced it with the ultra-120. I didnt like my CPu so high at 3.2GHz. But for the weight/size/# of heatpipes/ # of fins... The Freezer Pro 7 is actually really good. It clips in like the stock cooler. I actually had my old one for only 5-6 months if you are interested in buying.

No, don't know intels max heatsink weight, im relatively new to intel, used to be an amd man.

I do move my pc around quite a bit.

Ive got an ac7 pro now, but it idles a bit too high for my liking

These are some other heatsinks ive been looking at:

noctua NH-U12F
scythe infinity
Titan vanessa-Large type

Does anyone know how heavy the above three are, & how they compare in performance to these 3:

Thermaltake 190ultra
Zalman nvidia 9700
Arctic freezer 7 pro

thanks for help everyone. You'll have to forgive my noob heatsink knowledge, im relatively new to pc building.

I have a Cooler Master Hyper 6 and it weighs in at 1.1kg. I have not had any problems with it, although I am very careful when transporting it. I will not let anyone pick up my computer.

yeah to be honest that really is too much, i didnt know wieghed over 2 pounds. Now what i reccomed is your second idea of the 9700 however by for it is not the best of the range, if i were you i would get CNPS7500-Cu, ora CNPS7700-Cu for overclocking. These are really great, they are quite and quite hard to beat in cool with air.

it is under a pound in wieght so it will be fine

they are also quite low to the motherboard and quite. I you will use a C2D i might want to consider not using the Fan Mate as the speed step is very reailable.

good luck on the build

Ill have a look into those other two zalman ones!

Now i realise that cooling simply isn't to do with the performance & quietness, the weight is starting to play a part in there as well.

one more thing:
Would the noctua be better than all of the others i mentioned? - minus the thermalright 120

It doesn't weigh much & i won't have to redo my case wiring.

thanks
Darren

P.s. One other important thing: Does anybody have any knowledge of the titan vanessa small version? Im putting together a lower end pc, & can't decide between the vanessa-s & arctic freezer 7 pro.

AMD and Intel both recommend coolers that weigh no more than 448 grams (1 pound).

I am guessing this is using the stock push and clip style pins. I have a thermalright ultra-120 and it comes with a backplate which dispurses alot of the weight over a larger area. I dont see it being a problem withh this design.

old hand thats not a ninja cooler there that is an Infinity

In finity is bigger and it has one more heatpipe

this is the ninja

Ninja

I dont know why theye dont list Acoustic PC it retails for 54.00 but Acoustic PC Has it for 39.99

http://www.acousticpc.com/scythe_ninja_cpu_cooler.html

Actuallt i take it back looking closer at the ninja it has 6 hetpipe more than the Infinity Itersting

However when weight is a concern for a heavy cooler Thermalright has come up with a soulution bolt throu kits for AMD as well as Intel

Acoustic PC and Thermalright ROCKS!!!

No worries if you got a Thermalright ULTRA-120 not only do you have one of the best cooler you can possible get.

But with the bolt through kit you will not damage you cpu or board. That what they made it for for there heavy high performance coolers now we can get a high performance cooler with out the worries of damage.

Thermalright ROCKS!!!

For waht im looking for, the zalman 9700-nt, titan vanessa-l & noctua NH-U12F look right for my pc - without going above 800grams including the fan!

I'm repairing another pc as well & would just like to know if the titan vanessa-s would be better than the arctic freezer 7 pro? they are about the same price, with the vanessa being a little more expensive, plus a standard 92mm fan incase i want to change it, but the arctic freezer 7 pro has the bent fins to cool my MB's heatsink. - dunno which to choose!

i would stay away from arctic freezer and for sure stay away from the vanessa its garbage

the Noctua is one hec of a cooler so is the zalman you can go wrong but if you want something to cool your chipset

The enzotech is the way to go
http://enzotechnology.com/

Acoustic PC has it for 59.99

Do you mean the vanessa S or L-type? I would have thought the vanessa-l type would be good because of the massive 25mm pipe.

One other question - im planning on getting a core2 e6600, & just wanted to know if the amd a64 3500+ gets hotter than the e6600.

The reason i ask is because i found a comparison of the noctua & thermalright 120 & the noctua did as good as the thermalright 120 & i just wanted to know if that would happen on an e6600

thanks
