cpu gpu upgrades?

I'm considering upgrading my GPU from a gt 740 to a gtx 1070, its an EVGA ACX3.0 Black edition 08G-P4-5171-KR, and I'm wondering if it would work with my Z87-PRO motherboard? Would I be better off upgrading my CPU instead ( i5-4690 ), I mostly use my pc for playing games, and want to be able to run the newer ones well, any suggestions on other GPU/CPU upgrades? Thanks

Yes, that graphic card will work with your motherboard -- just insure that you have sufficient room inside your case for the length of the card. I would opt for the graphic card over a CPU upgrade for most gaming.

What particular games at what resolutions are you using?

I generally would not recommend spending to upgrade a CPU on an older build.

I'm playing things like R6 Siege and Dark souls 3 rn, but am hoping to get into some VR stuff soon. Most of my games render in at 1920x1080, Thanks.
