Question CPU high temps - 9700k.

My CPU's temps are way too high for my taste. And If anyone could tell me why and how could i fix it i would very much appreciate it.

CPU: Intel I7-9700k (stock).
Cooler: Cryorig M9I Single fan.
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI
Power Supply: EVGA 750 GQ, 80+ GOLD 750w
Case: NZXT H700i

Temps
44-45 C idle
80C on Dota 2 after playing for a while.
72C on Destiny 2.

I had that same problem last week and went for a Noctua D15S cooler (R5 2600), and went from 50 idle, 95 full load, to 30 idle, 50 full load (C). Getting 35C on Dota, after around 6 hours of playing. What helped was getting an aftermarket cooler and changing the thermal paste.

yea, i see, Ryzen have lower overall temps than intel, my other pc has a ryzen 5 1600 and it runs dota 2 at 55C full load, 35-40 idle temps, Should i be worried about my i7 9700k?, it does seem to be a spike, but im kinda worried.

80C might be a bit too high for a game like Dota, since it's not a demanding game at all. What's your CPU usage while playing? When's the last time you applied some thermal paste?

80C might be a bit too high for a game like Dota, since it's not a demanding game at all. What's your CPU usage while playing? When's the last time you applied some thermal paste?

80C was a peak temp, normal temps i think are between 60-65C, thermal paste..well im afraid to say this processor has less than 2 months old, thermal paste applied the same day i bought it. Switched from 6700k. similar issue, way worst, would peak at 90+ on almost any game, it didn't matter which game was it. I changed thermal paste and cooler, still had issues i decided to just buy mother+cpu+ram all new

If your normal temps are 60-65 you don't have to worry, imo. Are you using the stock CPU cooler? How many case fans do you have? Also you should -if you haven't already- clean the dust from your case, that will greatly help, for a start.

I had the same issue, so I added 2 exhaust fans (3 intake, 2 exhaust total) which you can get for very cheap, for example the be quiet's Pure Wings 2 that I got for 10€, cleaned up all the dust and finally bought an aftermarket cooler. My temperatures were getting very high though, but again, I wouldn't worry if I got 65C on full load.

Insufficient hardware(cooler).
That cooler is designed for 120w or lower. You're running a cpu that is capable of dumping 200w of waste heat when fully loaded. That's why you're having temp issues.
A new cooler is needed.

Not necessarily. Depends on boost clocks, number of cores, etc.
Ryzen 1600 has fewer physical cores and does not operate or boost as high as the 9700K does. The 2 cpus are in different leagues.

You'll notice most of them are on the large side.
Well, size is the only real downside of air coolers; stronger coolers are going to have larger heatsinks. This doesn't change even with the AIOs; a radiator instead of a heatsink.
Your case has enough clearance(185mm) for all of them anyways.
