CPU info display problem and dead PSU fan

I haven't seen CPU model and clock speed info in system properties since last few days. It only shows ammount of RAM.

This isn't exactly a problem, but it's not normal either. What can be the reason for this strange behavior?

And I've noticed yesterday that my PSU fan isn't working anymore. It's a 3 years old generic 300W PSU. I didn't have any stability issuse so far. I wouldn't discover it if I didn't leave my top-most optical drive bay cover open. Should I replace my PSU?

Strange, the CPU info should be right above the RAM size info and below the Computer: ?

Yeah, it should be there, but it's not.

And if my PSU gets fried, can it damage my mobo or whole PC?

Usually, it would just go out on its own. If not, it might take the chipset out on the board or something. Do you not suspect it is not something with wndows screwed up causing it not to register or display?

It's not a big deal to replace the fan in a psu, but you really should have one with a fan on the bottom. It would really help keep your 2400 cool.
An enermax 365 would do you fine. I'm using one on my s939 3200.

Maybe I'll do the surgery, or get another generic PSU.

I won't get brand PSUs since they cost at least 8 times more than the generic ones. Plus, I never had problem with generic PSUs.

FSP is a brand, and a 400 watt FSP PSU costs $37 at newegg.
I respect your opinion, but find it hard to believe that for around $5 (8xless) you can get a reliable PSU.

I don't have a GeForce 6800GT to feed, and I'm not overclocking right now. So $6 PSUs work pretty well for me.

But if I had a power hungry graphics card card and did serious overclocking, then I would consider spending 8x more for a Thermaltake PSU (probably the only brand PSU available here)
