[SOLVED] CPU Motherboard compatibility

Hey!
I bought this motherboard: Gigabyte H310M S2H which supports i7 8th generation using socket LGA1151
For me, the 8th generation is too expensive, and i don't want to move down from i7 as i currently own an i7-4770.
I am planning to buy an i7-6700 or 6700K which is 6th generation and using LGA1151 socket, so technically it does fit into this motherboard. Is it a 100% certain, that this motherboard doesn't support an older i7 CPU with LGA1151 socket? I didn't want to upgrade my i7-4770 because so far it never bottlenecked my system with the games i play with but i accidentally broke a part on my older motherboard.

Oh, you already had the ram as well?

1)The 8600k is around your budget it seems. Downside: you can't overclock it with that motherboard.
2)The 8600k performs almost identical to the 6700k: Each has 12 logical processors, no noticeable difference in clockspeeds - 6700k all core is 4.0ghz, 8600k all core is 4.1ghz.
3)Ryzen 2600(x) isn't worse than your 4770.

If you can't afford a Z-series motherboard to go with that 8600k, you are...

Is there any other option to stay with intel? What if I buy an i5-8600K? My budget is £250 which i wanted to buy the i7-6700 with. Is the i5-8600K a decent processor against a 6700K? I have already purchased 16 GB DDR4 RAM running on 3200 Mhz
I just don`t want any performance loss from what i`ve got now, which is provided by an i7-4770 and a GTX 970 OC which i will also upgrade later. But so far it was quite decent in any games, even in VR.

If you can't afford a Z-series motherboard to go with that 8600k, you are wasting money. You are paying more on an unlocked cpu for extra performance that you won't get to use.

Return that motherboard and get this instead:

^Including your current ram, this would outperform the setup you currently have in mind, and it doesn't require a fancy Z-board to overclock.
Bonus: The Ryzen would especially love that fast ram you already have - Intel setups don't benefit from it nearly as much.
