I bought a custom built pc with an fx 8350 8 core cpu. just recently started overheating and shutting down. possible causes? worked great for a couple months now after about 3 hours hovers around 75c-82c degrees. then shuts off. fans seem to be working fine. I have a Corsair Hydro Series H100i. any ideas?

Just some advice: Try and stay away from buying "custom" builds, especially if they have liquid cooling. if your going "custom", try building it yourself so you know exactly what parts are in your system and not relying on someone else's word for it. I've seen people get ripped off buying a custom PC, in which it either breaks down in a few months, or the parts were not that good.

As far as your issue, Corsair Liquid Coolers tend to fail a lot if not properly maintained and cleaned, in which then will cause issues and overheat the CPU. You have to give the Radiator maintenance, or else you'll have a huge mess. This becomes a nightmare for someone who may not be tech-savy.

Check the link below. If it looks like that, yeah...

Sounds like the pump on your water cooler has failed, no longer pumping the liquid around the loop to the radiator to be cooled, only way to find out for sure is to try a different cooler.

Check and clean the radiator if it's dirty. If it looks good, then it's most likely the pump failing or the thermal paste that was used sucks. Good luck!
