Last December I bought a pre-built pc and since I have had some problems with it. It would shut off randomly, and drop major fps, so I solved this by setting up a large fan next to it, took the front off and when it decided to drop fps, I would turn the fan on. It had problems like this on and off for 1-2 months each, it did this about 2-3 times. And a couple months ago (relatively no problems before) it shut off after what I think was a gaming session, and wouldn't turn back on altogether. The computer is one of those generic HP Pavilion desktops and I tested the psu, RAM, and battery on a different computer so I know that those are probably not the problem. It turned back on when I re-seated the RAM, but I had to go to bed so I shut it off. In the morning, it wouldn't turn back on when pressing the power button, so now if I want to turn it on i have to:
unplug psu
reseat the battery
plug psu in
then it would turn on by itself and would immediatley shut off, then boot to a screen that told me to press F1 to boot. It did this Every. Single. Time, which is a giant pain, so I just took it apart and didn't turn it on since. I want to know if it is the cpu or mb because I want to sell the cpu to help pay for new parts. When I smelt the motherboard it kind of smelt a little burnt, but only in some areas, unseating (is that even a word?) the cpu, it doesnt look burnt, and doesn't smell burnt, and unseating the mb, doesn't look burnt either. My best guess is the mb, but I wouldnt want to sell someone a broken processor so I came here instead. Sorry for the novel, specs of pc below.
Specs:
CPU: Intel core i5-2400k
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050
PSU: 240w HP PSU
MB: Hewlett Packard 1495 (I think)
Not that it matters but 500gb hard drive.
Thank you
