CPU temperature nearing critical

I have a peculiar issue here with my PC. I am finding that if I try to run Norton Anti-Virus full system scan, that my CPU temperature rockets to 75 degrees Celsius, and reboots. Now I haven’t tried seeing if any other software causes the same result, but do you know of any reason why this should happen?



And unrelated. What is the VCore? And can it be updated?

Give a list of your hardware.

Was this a machine that you or someone built for you?

VCore is basically a voltage setting for your processor. You can usually change it in the BIOS, but if you don't know what it is then you shouldn't be messing with it. And it's possible that it could be related

Your going to need to give more info about your system. The first thing I would suspect is the heat sink not seated properly or thermal paste/tape not applied properly.

I just opened the PC and found that the CPU heatsink is indeed not sitting fluch. It appears that the cradle that holds it down has a crack on one side and this had led to the heatsink being raised on that side. Am going to get a new one fitted.

Ram: 2*512mb DDR PC2700
MB: ASUS P4S533-MX Bios 1006
agp: Leadtek Nvidia FX 5600 256mb running DET 77.77
HDD: Maxtor 120Gb 7200rpm 8mb Cache
SC: Audigy 2

Parts selected by me, but put together by a tech.
