Question Cpu upgrade for Socket 1156

Hey i'm currently using a intel core i3-530 and i've been looking for a upgrade. I don't have a big budget so i can't upgrade the motherboard, it's a socket 1156 / Socket H1 intel motherboard.

Pc is a medion ms-7616

And i'm not sure which cpu i should pick as a site says it supports i3 i5 i7 and xeon cpus. I3 560 max I5 680 max I7 880 max Xeon X3480 max
Which should i pick? Which offers biggest difference and which offers a good difference but for the cheapest price?

Wow, fake CPUs? Do they work at least?

The seller I posted on AliExpress seems legit as he has good reviews. He sold 122 Xeons X3470.
They did, but weren't as fast as they should have been in relation to the old ones. I didn't think of it much until I ran the Intel test. Then I was PISSED!

There are fake reviews too, and you have to also realize that most people won't test a cpu with any type of official benchmark to see if it's a fake, so they won't even know. I don't trust the Chinese at all anymore. Anything coming from there is shady on some level unless there's a local retailer that's going to take the heat if it's not on the level. Any online company or 'business office' can be fake as well. It's flat out ridiculous.
 
The one that fits the case you want and has the price and features you want. Remember, the base (reference) design is going to be very similar if not the same.
 
The Gigabyte seems to have the best cooler, bigger than the others.

i7-870 / i7-875k whatever you get cheap, used or new. Btw you can pair this cpu with alot better GPU:s and have good gaming experience even with games like fortnite dont get fooled by the old age.

You dont bottleneck gpu:s like gtx 670 / 780 even without overclocking and can go 780ti 970 with slight oc, depending on your power supply.

If you don't need to go for low power or lower profile, I'd definitely spring for something higher performance than the 750 Ti. The 670/780/780 ti/970 all spank the 750 Ti:

I have/had multiple PC:s running this socket motherboard. There are many boards which have good vrm:s to last decade of overclocking. I currently have Asus p7p55d as my motherboard in 2 pc:s and its a stable choice for 4ghz+ overclock.

With i7-870 and i7-875k you hit oc "wall" alot faster than i5 non hyperthreading cpu:s but i still suggest going i7-870 or 4 core 8 thread xeon since games are optimized really well for 8+ thread gaming nowdays.

This is passmark score of 2nd PC which has 4.05ghz oc. I got stable 4.25ghz on another PC. https://www.passmark.com/baselines/V9/display.php?id=135483119934
You can also get ram pretty high speed on these boards unlike x58 i heard its way harder. Im currently running 2300mhz and 2250mhz.

Is speed-battle.com a benchmark? Havent used it.
 
OP: you need to check if your motherboard bios has overclocking settings or you willl be running your i7 or i5 on stock speeds. Just take pictures of bios and post here if uncertain.

Also your motherboard might not support 16gb ram atleast on dual channel like p7p55d (its not supported but works well)

Thank you for the details. That's amazing that you're able to run OC memory as well. You're practically running with the i7-2600 and i7-3770 on the 1156 platform which is pretty unreal!

It's not a benchmark per se, but a really quick and dirty single thread performance evaluation that you varies browser to browser, but still gives a solid idea of what a system can do once you're used to it.

If you look at passmark benchmark scores for i7-2600 (score 8,400) and i7-3770 (9.500 score) those are imbossible results to get with any oc on lynnfield chips. Best i can do is about 7250 score with 4.3ghz but its not bad score i talked about this in another thread its same score as stock i5-7400 which is from 2017, thats 7 years newer cpu.

If op gets hes chip to atleast 3.7-3.8ghz with that motherboard its about 6500 score which is not bad at all and wont bottleneck gtx 970

I was mainly thinking in terms of single thread performance as you're right--the HT does boost the core count and overall performance numbers. But being able to run the same as an i5-7400 is pretty amazing and really shows the value potential of these older systems for those that are willing to invest a little time and effort into them:

Wow, that's pretty solid numbers on the ram and makes a huge difference in performance over stock when coupled with the oc.

But if you have already lga1156 motherboard or i7 / i5 chip then its not waste of money if you get cheap deal for the part you want and dont mind playing newest AAA games. Im getting around 150+ fps on fortnite and 250fps+ in csgo. These are with low settings obviously.

With i5-680 you can get around 200-300mhz more , even 4.4-4.5ghz is possible since you only have 4 cores. This means you need decent cooling and motherboard coupled with dual channel ram (2x4 or 2x8gb)

Oh I don't game at all--just look at high res pdfs. Maxing out the current gear is the only goal, and I didn't think these levels of performance were even possible until you posted.

Actually the i5-680 has only 2 cores with HT, so it sounds like it might be able to boost even more.

Luckily viewing a pdf is basically a single thread operation so as long as the single thread performance increases nicely, it would be a worthwhile upgrade.
