CPU Upgrade from FX4300 to FX6300

Hey guys.

I'm gonna upgrade my cpu from the FX4300 to FX6300.
I have the Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P.

Is there anything special I should do before installing my new FX6300?

You shouldn't bother, there really isn't much of a performance difference besides 2 extra cores, which aren't going to be used all that much anyway. Main reason the 6300 is much more popular is that it's only about £10 more expensive.
If you really want better performance you can OC your FX 4300.

You will notice a 10-20% improvement in performance but you will notice more if you multitask like 6 programs at once and such.

There's plenty of sites out there testing the AMD FX processors 6300 and 6350 and so on. 2 Extra cores it will just spread out the workload more evenly and less cpu usage thats about it

I'm upgrading because I'm getting a GTX 760. If I overclock the FX4300 ofc there will be no bottlenecks but what about in the future? I'd rather buy the FX6300 now and then after 5 years when I upgrade my gpu I just can OC it.

That is not going to last for 5 years, atm it is getting so it will be needing a replacement very soon. If you are going to upgrade the best thing you could do is get a FX 8xxx series, then overclock as far as your motherboard will take.

Want a rig lasting for 5 years? Go with intel. A base speed i5 4690k beats an amd 9590 in pretty much everything but rendering and encoding by a far margin.

Yeah newer games are starting to utilize 8 cores for ultra settings or minimum 4 cores low settings. With 6 will be in the middle for high quality settings if you disable shadows seizure approved particles and such. Im getting myself a 6300 next week to replace my 1055T just for lower power consumption and i game at 720p since i cant read in 1080p. If you can sell that processor go for it unless you got extra money laying around or don't mind overclocking

I can't find anymore documentation or know the accurate power states since me and you have the same motherboard.

Games from the ps4 and xbox direct x 12 mantle such n such. Drivers and patches are wonderful

Battlefield 4 and many future games which use AMD mantle will use all 8 cores.On BF4 the FX 8350 trades blows with i7 4770k

Black flag uses 6 cores at 25-40% load spread out for me last 3 sometimes dip to 15% on area with less AI core 0 60ish
battlefield 4 all my cores are around 30-60% back and forth
Watch dogs uses all the cores if i have the quality high or depending on area

And as for the other games i never bought or am interested in playing. Im more into simulation/stealth games
There's probably sites out there testing the cores with mantle and latest direct x 11 tests since nvidia has been optimizing dx11 for newer games. I did notice Deus ex 3 hitman and tomb raider takes 5 seconds to load a map for me and before it was 12-14 seconds.
