Hello. So i have just noticed thaf my i5 7400 and 8gb of ram are causing extreme bottlenecks to my rtx 2060 and iam having alot od fps drops . So i started to look for a cpu ans ram upgrade .
Im thinking about an i7 8700 non k
2x8 hyperx 2666mhz gb of ram
And a brand new msi b360m motherboard
Is this a good upgrade and will i really get an fps increase after getting rid of the bottleneck?

The 8700 isn't compatible with your motherboard. The 8xxx cpus run with 300 series boards, and thus will require a new mobo and ram as well.
The cheapest route you can go with your current setup, is a I7 7700k, and a new kit of 16gb(8x2) 2133/2400mhz ram.
And yes, it would be able to keep up with the 2060.

What games are we talking? And seconding clutchc's question, how are you monitoring cpu usage?

Depending on games, 8700 can help a lot.

Not sure what Phaaze88 meant by needing new ram unless you have system specs in your sig which i can't see on phone but if your mobo can take ddr4 (being an i5 7500 7400 i assume it does), start with more ram first. Windows can consume 1.5~3GB ram, from 8GB that wouldn't leave much for games and potential of creating large pagefiles and if hdd is slow that can cause drops too.

The OP's post states a 7400, 8gb ram(didn't mention how many sticks), and a 2060 for their current setup. This is about bottlenecks, so I assumed it was for gaming. Better to have 16gb than 8 these days.

Oops sorry. fixed. Early in the morning for me lol. Assuming now you meant new sticks to keep in a set that's been tested to work, and i agree better to have 16GB.

the 2x8 gb of ram upgrade is my priority now . and Yeas the cpu stays 100% on almost all games . I think that's why the performance is so bad.
When it comes to games . forza horizon 4 runs +60fps on ultra without problems
but games like gta v and ghost recon wildlands drop to 48-53 even on medium settings . as I saw on videos these games should run over 90 fps
even fortnite is dropping in my pc!
I only I have one stick 8gb ram
and I play my games on a ssd

I though about 7700K but our stores in our area only sell 7700 which is a big bottleneck to the GPU So iam thinking about getting a cheap 300 series mobo to work with the 8700 and 2x8 ram 2400 MHz or 2666

Have a look at a recent discussion we had in regards to a 7700 replacing an overclocked 6600k. See the ops analysis on his results.

Can't go wrong with either really. 8700 would be the better choice in the long run if you decide to upgrade gpu in future.

7700 can easily handle a 2060. The cpu sets the fps cap and 2060's level of fps isn't too great to give a 7700 a hard time.

What refresh rate are you running with your 2060? IMatty does have a point, if playing at only 60fps/60Hz your i5 should be doing ok in moderate cpu intensive games but games like BF 1 or 5 then i would upgrade cpu for sure. The cpu needs to prepare frames for the gpu so the more fps a gpu can do the more preparing cpu needs to do which means higher cpu usages. 7400 isn't an exceptionally strong cpu so in some games playing at 60fps might be too much.

Your ram should be first priority, it'll help but if you find there's more improvement to be had then go a 7700 or 8700 and use the ram you bought. If you don't mind gutting the pc then sure id go an 8700.

The ram Upgrade is guranteed thats my priority ae i mentioned before. Lets get back to the first question is it normal that the weak i5 7400 can really affect performance that much!!?
