trying to build my first gaming PC and I am taking out money from my ram and was wondering if I should invest it more into my CPU or GPU? I was originally going to buy 32gb ram but read that is practically overkill so I'm going to downsize to 16gb.

I already have my motherboard and my case is coming in this Friday.

since I am new what should I be looking for spec wise in a CPU as my friend said I should invest it in my CPU. all I know is my socket is a LGA 1151 don't really know what to look for other then that.

this is what I was planning to get http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100007671 50001157 600005573 600005576 600565702 600005731&cm_sp=Cat_CPU-Processors_1-_-Visnav-_-Intel-i7_2

I really do not see any other CPU's of the same socket on the site other then that as far as an i7 lga1151 socket goes. would this cpu last me years I mean I probably plan to upgrade it eventually but not in like another 4 years

Solution

There isn't a need to have different models of i7 for the socket 1151. Most people will get the i7 6700k if they want the i7 version.
What motherboard did you get.
Reason you only got one product showing is that you filtered to only show a socket 1151 i7 at 4Ghz.

List of socket 1151 cpu:http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/cpu/#f=57

What you should get depends on your budget.
For gaming, an i5 6600k +a Z170 motherboard is enough. You can get the i7 6700k if you want to. The main difference between the two is hyper threading.
There are the non-k cpus which are not overclockable but will still be fine. If you get either the i5 6600k or the i7 6700k, you will need to buy a cpu cooler as it does not ship with one.

this is my motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132565&cm_re=asus_rog_max-_-13-132-565-_-Product
I filtered it because of the socket my motherboard takes that's all was trying to look for more options but I guess there are not many right now as far as cpu i7 goes. also yea I am planning to buy a liquid cooler. I think in the end I will just stick to the parts I am planning to buy and simply upgrade in the future. might save the money to buy a new monitor or a dedicated sound card
