From what I remember, the Centrino is like SUPER low power. They give excellent battery life. They are clocked slower than the Pentium M. The Pentium M is a mobile chip that also gives good battery life. Unless you need an insanely long battery life the Pentium M will suffice. You will also get more performance from the Pentium M. I was never really impressed with Centrino because of their slow clock speed. I would get a mobile Athlon 64 if I were you!!!

Centrino and Pentium-M is NOT the same thing.

Centrino is not a CPU. It's the name of Intel's mobile solution containing Pentium-M + (it's chipset) + integrated 802.11b wireless LAN.

Pentium-M is just the CPU (often called "Banias", it's the codename of Pentium-M). Outstanding performance and very low power consumtion makes them the best CPU for notebooks.

Like spitfire said. Centrino is a package that includes the Pentium-M, a chipset, and a wireless networking solution. It's like asking "what's the difference between an engine and a drivetrain". The Centrino package contains the Pentium-M processor, which is also available separately.
