I have an old PC I want to transform into a gaming PC.

It contains

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
System Manufacture: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: P35-DS3L
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM (DDR2)

What I need to know and all I'm asking is what would be the highest possible Graphics Card that is Compatible for this PC. I don't need to know how well it can run. I dont need to know about prices. I just need to know what is the highest this set up can handle so I can know where the line in.

It's current graphics card

Name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
Approx. Mem: 4068 MB

Solution
what is your PSU? your PSU will need to feed the card and the motherboard can work with ANY card with a PCIe slot up to and including the RTX 2080 ti.
you will want to balance the needs of the system with the right card as a 2080 ti in that system would be wasteful to say the least for a 1080p monitor at 144hz.
