Question Crashing related to 4090

I have a i9-13900K, and my main GPU is a ASUS TUF 4090. While using the 4090 I’ve been running into the same crash for months and WhoCrashed gives me this error code:

msdn bugcheck video_dxgkrnl_livedump

I do realize this isn’t technically a real error code but this is all the info I have related to the crash. If anyone knows how I can further look into this advice is welcome and appreciated.

What I find odd about this is that I do not run into any issues at all when I use my old 3080.
I have RMA’d the 4090 in the hopes that the issue was related to the hardware. Alas the issue is still occurring. Happy to provide any other info :D

Your cpu might also be coincidentally now going through dramas 13th/14th gen are having atm, if you were not aware of that.

Bios update to address the issue + replacing cpu under warranty is what you probably might want to consider if things don't improve. Depending how long you've had the cpu for, the degradation might not be as severe and bios might help on it's own albeit is a progressive situation and will only get worse if you don't do something about it asap.

I’ve got an MSI motherboard, this is the kind of thing I’d do with a flash drive and whatnot correct? I apologize for my ignorance, I’m just not too well versed on hardware related issues.

Sounds like one of the 13th/14th gen Intel CPU issues, I really doubt it's your 4090. You should immediately upgrade your bios to the newest one, and also start an RMA on your CPU with Intel.

Go to your support page for your specific motherboard and navigate to BIOS/Firmware. Download the newest BIOS version and put it on any regular old USB stick. Make sure the USB is totally empty besides just the BIOS info. Restart your computer and *usually* press F2 or DEL to access the bios. Navigate to EZ-Flash (or similarly named), point it towards the file on your USB stick, and let it do its magic. No need to use the physical flash back button procedure.

This should stop any subsequent damage from occurring. However, if your CPU has already suffered from oxidation issues, there's no fixing it, and that's why you should still open an RMA and see what happens.

Did you build your computer or have someone else do it / pre-built? Since you rma'd the graphics card, i guess you built it yourself? If a shop or someone else is involved they should be aware of the Intel situation and assist you, whatever is needed.

I’ve updated the bios and the pc crashed within 10 minutes. It’s been suggested that my vram could be dumping for whatever reason, is this at all possible?

Yeah, I'll get on that tomorrow then; that really sucks. Paying $600+ for a CPU just for it to brick the rest of your 4k computer is somewhat ridiculous. Is what it is though. Is there any chance you know anyone who worked with Intel's RMA process? Is it relatively straightforward/ easy to work with?

Yea I can't say for sure obviously, but I'd definitely address the CPU first. I know its a video error -- but these Intel issues bring them up for whatever reason. Im really sorry you have to go through this. Better than your 4090 being the issue at least.

The RMA process with Nvidia was actually really easy. $8 for shipping and I had a new card in 4 days.
