Crossfire and the Graphics Ram

Lets say you have a 1gb graphics card and you play a game at 2650x1600 and the 1gb isn't quite enough. Well I though that if you crossfire the card the Ram will scale so you should have close to a 2gb potential since it only makes each card do a bit of the work.

But a guy on here said that wasn't the case and said getting another card wouldn't do anything if you were slowing down at high resolutions because of the Graphics ram.

Can someone explain.

So if it doesn't help whatsoever then after crossfire the total system still only has 1gb of graphics potential then that means it has to be either one of these 2.

1. Only one graphics cards Ram is used in crossfire.

2. The cards Ram scales down to half so both card working together still only have around 1gb.

Either way if this is the case then scaling cards sounds stupid.

Why doesn't anyone ever reply, I mean I see 30 or so reads how can not 1 person out of 30 at least reply.
