Hi

Im busy with my very first build and I'm at the point of installing the cpu. I have put the cpu into the socket correctly, closed the metal cover, but now when i want to pull down the load lever and lock it in place under the metal cover, theres a lot of resistance! its like the lever is applying too much pressure down on the cpu and the metal cover. Its making a crucnhing/grinding noise so im scared to push it further. I have read some places that this is normal.

Should it require that much pressure? I don't want to push harder because it feels like i am going to break something.

Please help!! I am 100% sure that the cpu is in the socket correctly.

Thanks

My msi cpu cover had a groove that slides into a screw when it locked down. Just be sure your lever is moving smoothly and it's hinges are not binding. The cpu notches only fit one way in the socket.

I did have it so that the groove goes underneath the screw, but it was still making a grinding/crunching noise.

It just needed abit of force! I read quite alot about this on other forums and it seems to be a common occurence on 1156 and 1155 motherboards. As i type this, the new build is up and running prime 95 :)

Thanks for the reply
