[citation][nom]guardianangel42[/nom]Funny you should mention torrent sites. Crysis 2 was 2011's most pirated PC game. It totalled over 3.5 million copies download. MW3 was right behind it at roughly the same number.Consoles? Most pirated console game was Super Mario Galaxy 2 with 1.8 million downloaded. Next in line had only 889,000 downloads.Don't even try and lie and say they're comparable.[/citation]
If the people on consoles knew how to pirate games they would. So the lack of piracy on consoles just speaks to the limited knowledge of the vast majority of the console users. Remember if it can be cracked it will be cracked... just have to know how and be willing to do it.

Also about the article itself... He says he went to south korea and was shocked to see how many of them were playing online. Im guessing hes never heard about them before. Why didnt he go to North New York where theres basically NO ONE playing online? Oh yeah because it wouldnt support his theory that they had to act to give out free to play games. As someone said here not too many people use the cryengine in their games so this sounds even more like a desperation attempt to get noticed after the UE4 debut. Looks like I was right in my comments about their reason for giving the finger to the Unreal team. Now they are doing it again. This time though its to the entire pc gamer nation under the postulation that since people pirate their games they make free ones and ones for consoles. Yeah that doesnt sound like a guy being a whiny bitch or anything nooo.

I'll save mr Yerli the time looking it up... the reason his games get pirated is because they look cool but they are system hogs and the story is at best horrible. So the pirates play through them once or twice to see if their system can run it and to see the game through then uninstall them. Who wants to pay 60+ dollars to play through a 12-20hr game once? Or worse just to test their system? Apparently not about 3.5 million people around the world. In short the pc gamers dont fear consoles (or their horrible ports) they fear crappy games that use cool graphics as an excuse for a lack of compelling story that connects the player to the character(s) they interact with.

There is also a huge market for physical pirated copies of console games. PC is generally done via downloads, but many people buy pirated copies of console games for ~$5 each from the black market / ebay.

[citation][nom]kinggremlin[/nom]While you should stay illiterate. The part you quoted is not in quotes in the news post and it is no where in the original article this is linked to. Crytek did not say that, that was "commentary" added in by THG.[/citation]

Interesting. It was a direct copy/paste from the linked article before I went to sleep. Notice how someone else before me quoted the same chunk.

You do know they constantly edit their postings, right? And the piece I quoted was under heavy fire from other readers from other forums, right? Sounds like you were too slow to the party, meany-face.

consoles make gaming world suffer with creepy games (except some titles ) ...i hope they became better with no fear ......crytek bring awesome games ...i hope they still do that

The only reason PC gamers fear the console (lol) is that the pace of change on the console hinders overall technical progress of the entire industry. Sony and Microsoft's decision to sacrifice the power of their hardware for mainstream affordability is a glaring example of the continuation of this. In a year, when the PS4 and new Xbox are released, PC's will already outclass them in all categories. If the new consoles have a 5 year lifespan, in the 5 years that they are out, PC's will be several orders of magnitude more powerful, but our games will look like they were designed in 2013 because most of them will be console ports.

Also, Crytek can go F themselves. Korea's gaming culture isn't built on F2P, it's built on Pay to Win, and the "best" players shell out money hand over fist to be on top. Bringing that to the U.S. will be a long and difficult road. Not to mention the resistance from the industry itself, especially the publishers and retailers who will lose big when all their revenue from getting a cut dries up because no one buys a game in a box anymore.

[citation][nom]DroKing[/nom]"Sure, developers prefer the console sector because of piracy" I am getting sick and tired of hearing this tired ass excuse. Piracy is EVERYWHERE its not exclusive to PC FFS. People make fake copies of real physical items and these dumb devs and publishers act like piracy is only rampant in PC world when its just the same for consoles and real life items. STUPID ASS PEOPLE.[/citation]

I would think it is worse when it comes to consoles. Not every PC/laptop out there can run every game. Kids are using laptops and ipads.

[citation][nom]buddhabelly34[/nom]I see you have never tried to buy a console on craigslist. Type in Xbox 360 on craiglsist. You should see at least 5-10 posts in the first 2 pages about modding your Xbox.In case you do not know, the only reason to mod the Xbox is to void your warranty and play illegal games. Guess which one people usually do it for.[/citation]
That. Is. Not. Statistics.

Hopefully Crytek will give us a game with graphics that far surpass that of the original Crysis, and that'll show the console people what they are missing.

[citation][nom]Parsian[/nom]Cevat is beginning to sound like a D Bag. When was the last time you played a campaign F2P??? Almost all of the current F2P model is for online and requiring you to pay for stuff to play online. If there is no profit for campaign, what will motivate the game devs to develop quality campaign????[/citation]

Warface has a single player campaign, I just checked the site. The game looks amazing. We'll see.

Absolutely right. Go on Isohunt or Pirate Bay right now and and you can download PS3 and 360 games just as easily as PC games. Sure, there's a bit more mucking around to set them up, but then again the same applies with PC games. People that go to the effort of getting them working on their platform arn't your Joe Average (majority even?) 7 year old kids, casual gamers or people with an anti-piracy "conscience".

What's going on with the random jab at Nintendo in the first sentence? If you have some actual specs to report that show that Sony and Microsoft are going to try and "future proof" their consoles again, leaving Nintendo's Wii U in a performance class by itself it would be nice if you shared them. Instead promoting whatever agenda you're working on here.

[citation][nom]aggroboy[/nom]That. Is. Not. Statistics.[/citation]

This is common sense, you should adopt this concept, not base your opinions on dubious numbers

"So... do you have any statistical data to back that up?"

@ aggroboy, well all your dumb ass needs to do is goto a torrent site or just type in google XBox 360,playstation 3 torrent games. Or type in the game you are looking for then add Torrent in google, or if you are at a torrent site, just type in the game and platform I am sure you get an ass load of related content. PIRACY exists on all platforms, plain and simple.

I think any PC gamer that is afraid from nex gen consoles shouldn't deserve been called a PC gamer anyway, we should rather just be prepared to laugh at consoles as we always do

I'm sorry but the majority of PC gamers will have absolutely no interest in rubbish F2P games where the only way to be successful in the game is by paying more money. So the winner is....the guy who paid the most. Great - that sounds like so much fun. I've heard of a number of developers talking about this model lately, and to be honest it will be the death of PC gaming if it happens. The problem with these F2P games is they're fun for a maybe a week or so until you realise they are exactly the same as EVERY OTHER F2P game you've ever played - i.e. more money, more win. We don't all have endless piles of money to throw into these games just to keep a level playing field. Sad days.

It's good to see that at least one developer understands that piracy itself isn't the problem, the problem is that they're trying to sell copies that cost nothing to make. That's never going to work, for the same reason you don't sell the air people breathe.

There's still a big problem in finding a way to pay for development, but selling copies is a really bad way to do it. The obvious solution is some sort of tax, but there's no reasonable way to enforce that, especially across national borders. Kickstarter-type funding could also work, where projects look for funding and are free after they're funded, but it's hard to say if enough people would actually be willing to fund projects that way. The current free-to-play model isn't very good, because it inherently means lower quality.

Development companies need to get past the "build it and then collect money from it" methodology and replace it with a "collect money, then build it" methodology.
