Damn clumsy girls! Now i needs me a new 27" Monitor.

OK so some crazy beezy knocked over a glass in my room in a drunken stupor and managed to scratch my beloved monitor.
Time to get a new one.

It will be used for general surfing/work, movies, and gaming. (in order of importance)

Requirements:
25" or greater
LED Backlit
must have good blacks for movies and games!
~$300 or preferably less
1080p
must have at least one HDMI
response time <5ms (optimally 2-3)
good warranty

Right now I'm looking at the:
Asus VE278Q (available elsewhere: $290)
SAMSUNG P2770FH ($300+) (no backlit LED but has 1ms response time, bit more pricey) (note: who needs 1ms response time? also worried about the negatives of the technology behind the response time)
SAMSUNG S27A550H (refurb: $229.99 + $36.49 2 yr protection)
SAMSUNG 227A350H (refurb: $239.49 + $36.49 2yr protection)
HP 2711x ($298)
HP-2511x ($229.99! Just brought down from 250 on amazon)
ASUS VE258Q ($234)

What do you guys think of ViewSonic or Hanns-G? I've kinda excluded Acer because I have one of their laptops and it has an ubershite display.
Also any advice or ideas are welcome. I've also considered getting a TV instead of a monitor.
When it comes down to it the biggest factor for me is it needs to look damn good and be >27".
I'm willing to make sacrifices. For example if it's 5ms response time but unbeatable quality and price, then I might go with that.

Your eye, or any average human eye, will not notice a difference from 3 to 2ms. Not even from 8 to 2ms.

Or so i've heard. I still like the theoretical possibility of less ghosting etc.
Like I said, I'd be fine with a 5ms. However, my previous 60Hz 5ms monitor did give me tearing without vsync.
So if a 2ms will prevent that.. then it's a good choice.

Well it happened. My time machine keeps overheating so until I can get it liquid nitrogen cooled no luck in the prevention dept.

@MagicPants I'm pretty certain the refresh rate matters, I don't know about response time though.
At the end of the day I don't want my next monitor tearing with vsync off. Any ideas?

After doing some research, I'm very willing to go as low as 25". 24" seems a tad small but if there's some crazy deal on a quality monitor then i'd consider it.

What do you guys think of this one: ASUS VE258Q
Or the HP 2511x (5ms )
This one is 24" but it just got marked down a bit: ASUS VS248H-P.

If you turn vsync off, you're going to get tearing. But one reason 120hz monitors are so popular is that you can turn vsync on and still get very good responsiveness. It's more or less the best of both worlds.

I have the VE249H. If it's anything close to the VS248H-P, it's a darn fine monitor. I use mine for playing games and options trading but can't complain a BIT about any of it. I turn VSYNC on and have no problems with anything, nor do I have slow response times. The only time I get a low frame rate is when I run my 3 in eyefinity on BF3. Then I have to turn off the max settings and crank down the visuals to maintain the massive resolution but that's a problem with having just a single 6870 and not due to the monitors.

On terms of the colors and what not, I MUCH prefer it over my normal LCD's as it stands out over the rest hands down. I've used a Dell LED monitor at work and looked over some decent Sammy's but I still think these Asus monitors are hands down much better.

Thanks for your input! I previously had a Asus VH242H and liked it. However, it's not LED backlit and I really had to work with the settings to get it to look good. Also I don't like that it always needs to be in theater mode to look good.. Standard mode just looks bad to me.

That's part of the reason why I'm looking at other brands. I feel like getting an asus that is led backlit will make the contrast much nicer though.
Right now here are the 3 i'm seriously considering!

Cons: 5ms, TN,
