DDR pc2100 or DDR pc3200

Is pc 3200 DDR (400mhz) memory backwards compatible with pc 2100(266mhz) DDR memory. I want to do a memory upgrade in the near future. My current motherboard supports pc2100, but I can buy pc3200 memory for nearly the same price as pc2100, so I'd rather do that.

True, but it's probably not a big deal anyway since the memory will be running syncronous with the CPU.

Um, sorry, but I was just adding to your information. :roll:

I'll add then, if you want me to, that if the board will support 3200 then the performance may not increase even if the memory is run at 3200, with the CPU at 2100. Tests on similar systems show mixed results with assyncronous settings, sometimes better, sometimes worse. I don't have links, but I think somes tests were done here at THG.

I guess I'll also have to add, just to be thorough, that to run the memory at 3200, of course, the 2100 memory will need to be removed first, else all memory will run at 2100.

Thanks for the info. But now I'm running non ddr memory. I think I have 133 sdram. My motherbird supports either 1 Gig to ddr or sdram. I think sdram is a huge bottle neck. The system is about 5 years old and it has a AMD Athlon 1000 TB and I was searching ebay and notice that I can get a 2400+ for only 30 bucks. So since i'm kinda low on fund I figured I'll just upgrade memory and chip and see how many more years this system can hang in there.

Oh, in that case just be sure your board supports the type of memory you want to get. It may only support ddr of certain sizes, etc.
