cant activate wide mode feature what do I do?

After looking at the appropriate section of the online manual (http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/2007WFP/en/ug/setup.htm#Using%20the%20OSD), I have to ask: Have you already got the resolution set to 1680x1050? If so, you don't need the wide mode adjustment.

yes its set at 1680 x1050 but the wide mode feature in display settings is not active like the other features, as if its turned off

That's normal, because it sets the scaling for non-native resolutions. At native resolutions, the choices would not have distinguishable effects, so it disables the item.
