This is a pretty good baseline build. I've included everything hard drive which if you want to carry it over to the new machine you save a little there if you wanted to carry over your optical drive another saving point there as well as windows 7 if you already have that. I included 1866 memory because A10 APU's do better with faster memory so you will be happier with that. You could spend less if you wanted to get a cheaper APU maybe a A8 but you are looking around 450-500 dollars for a decent starter gaming machine.

That adapter is called a "riser" and will not work inside your computer unless you cut some of the sheet metal out of the back. It looks like it is a mini-tower system but is big enough to fit full size graphics cards in the pcie slot if they're not too long. It only has a 250 W power supply which will not be enough for any decent modern graphics card. If you plan to replace it we can give you some suggestions like the HD 7750.

Also what is your budget and what games do you want to play?

I just retired my last two this weekend.

I just looked at your link - so are you saying you don't have a PCI-E slot? If you don't have a PCI-E slot - I'd say you're outta luck for any 'modern' card (card worth buying).

If you have a PCI-E slot - I'd say the HD 7750 ... that's what Tom's says anyway.

OBTW - Dell power supplies are actually under rated. If you have a PCI-E slot the HD 7750 will work fine. I have / had a 300w Dell PSU and an HD 6670 for years no problem (the HD 6670 - min power supply recommended is 400w). The HD 6670 uses more power than the HD 7750.

im looking to play modern games also arma 2

400 is my budget is there any good desktop under 300 then with the extra 100 i will get a good graphics card

Just built a $500 computer for Christmas for my son.

AMD 5800k
ASRock FM2 Mobo
16 GB RAM
Corsair 600w psu ... case, SDD, reused HDD ...

It's the least expensive - gaming computer i could build. I can play World of Tanks at 38 FPS and he can play guild wars 2 (don't know the FPS).

The 5800k can overclock and has a built in GPU in the core (making it an APU).

It's a good gaming machine at 1600 x 900. I would not recommend it for 1920 x 1080.

Intel CPU's are better gamers in my opinion, but they are more expensive and require a dedicated GPU. If you do build watch youtube "computer build parts 2&3"it's a step by step video on how to build and install win 7.

AMD A-10 5800k !!

This is not the best gaming computer, but it's the best in this price range ($500). With good shopping Microcenter (best CPU and Mobo prices), Amazon, newegg, and pcpartpicker.com you might be able to get for $450 post rebates.

i love how this thread turned from 'help me with my pc' -> 'lets make a gaming pc' :)

1. i had a dell dimension 3xxx series (still works) ...dude give it up. Before graphics the stock processors are too old to run anything, the motherboard doesn't have PCI-Ex16 so you can't put any good graphics cards in it, you'd need to change the cooling system since that PC doesn't use the regular heatsinks.....i could go on forever...either live with playing pre-2000 games or build a new one.

2. any of the builds which ppl comment on (and they will :)) are all fine, they know what they're talking about, if you have a budget then use the build that bigshootr8 recommended as its cheaper compared to similarly performing pc's.

3. you don't know how to build, you have a dell dimension 3000, dismantle it, blow 'some' dust and reassemble it. :)

4. could suggest you keep your hard drive, don't need to buy a new windows OS if you do that and don't need to buy a new HDD.

5. ppl, keep geek talking in moderation :)

Building is fairly easy to do and isn't very challenging. I can find a desktop that would fit his range as well.

And if I can get on my soap box for a minute here. He made it here onto the forums which means I won't talk down to him. If he has the aptitude to make here onto the forums then I believe this man can build a computer without a shadow of a doubt.

It will be able to handle just about every game you want. Perhaps not on the highest settings but you will get decent value out of it. I would say you would get medium settings in just about every game with the possibility of high graphics in some as well. You also end up with the expandability to get a discrete card at some point as well.
