Dell gets premium for Core 2 Duo Notebooks

Dell has released the specs for their Core 2 Duo notebooks and right now the difference in a T2300E(1.66) and a T7600(2.33) is


$810 8O

in the Precision.
Tom's reported that they will be putting them in Latitude and Inspiron but they are not listed as CPU options as yet so I guess we'll be playing the "where is the Core 2 Duo" game again.

I can't wait to play with one somewhere, but I guess the retail(in-store) models won't be around for at least a few weeks. Dell will definitely get first pick and the biggest orders.

I'm not looking for a desktop chip and they do have them at Newegg now. And yes there is a premium on it which basically shows that either 2.6GHz works for 939\940 but not for AM2 or it is the chip that every OEM wants.

I'm sorry if you thought this was a negative post, but I just wanted to see what the price of the chip was after reading the story on this very website.

No, I didnt think it was negative. Just funning ya.

Newegg didnt list when I looked a while ago, but payhalf did, at the lowest price Ive seen to date....$312.

But no, not buying one now. I just bought the E6600 setup last month (when I couldnt find a reasonably prices 5000) and I just bought a 939 A64 4000/asus to make use of the ram/GPU/HDDs from my almost dead xp3200 system. It will be a long time before I need anything high end. I may get something else inexpensive to get my MAME cabinet back up and running, but I dont need high performance gear for that.

Apple is in bed with Intel now. They switched their entire product line up to Intel within a year. And really, when you look at the Intel/Dell relationship, it's more the other way around. Apple has Intel on its leash.

Last paragraph, additionally less than reputable news sources have confirmed the same thing.

The era of Dell getting it's choice of processors from Intel is done, HP, Lenovo and Apple are gaining market share as quickly as it is created, the gears of change are apon the industry. Dell corp. is on it's way to IBM has been super star.

Apple is in bed with Intel now. They switched their entire product line up to Intel within a year. And really, when you look at the Intel/Dell relationship, it's more the other way around. Apple has Intel on its leash.

apple basically works with one manufacturer when it comes to their hardware. before it was ibm, now it's intel. that's why they switched over so fast.

and you realize apple has about 5% market share, and that really doesn't account for a whole ton of intel chips sold in the big scheme of things. apple hardly has intel on a leash.

Yeah, I'm good for now too. I just bought a Turion but I won't be pulling the guts out of my case for several months. I was just wondering if anyoen had one of these in their future.
