My pc is a dell inspiron 560, and i was wondering how much of a graphics card (physically) i can use? ive been looking at the XFX Radeon HD 7950 and its dimensions are 27.4 x 3.8 x 11.2 cm, will this fit into the PCI Express slot without a problem?

The Alpine 650W should be enough. Check your nameplate for the +12V current capacity. I think that PSU's +12V rail is rated at 36 amp. The HD 7950 is a 200W card maxed out. That's ~16.7 amps on the +12V rail. Even with a big CPU, you should be alright if the Alpine brand is good quality. I'm not familiar with it here in the states.

Now for the card question. Simply measure from the expansion slot cover to the nearest obstruction you come to inside the case. If you have 27.4cm (10 3/4"), you should be fine.
If your case looks like this: http://www.pcdistrict.com/modules/productcatalog/product_images/123684-dell-inspiron-560s-4335.jpg the card should fit right in between the two drives.

Okay so i bought a new gpu, a Asus radeon hd 7770 2G and it still crashes
it seems that everytime i use a gpu that requires a power cabel (6pin) from the power supply, it crashes. When i use the 5450 that doesnt need the power cable it doesnt crash

Can anyone confirm this is a psu problem and not something else like motherboard? PSU is an Alpine 650w
