Many laptops with an Intel CPU that use the integrated graphics do not support Intel's own drivers regardless of workarounds, but it's worth a shot. Some of these companies make their own "custom" implementations of Intel's generic driver and they tend to do horrible, never update, and jsut want you to buy a new laptop when you can't tolerate it anymore.

This can be quite true! However, I have had pretty good luck with Dells and the generic Intel drivers over the years. Definitely worth trying.
