Dell Optiplex 790 Windows 10 no Audio output

I am currently working with a Dell Optiplex 790 and just recently upgraded to windows 10.

I am unable to get sound to come our of any speakers. The sound devices section lists:

ATAPI Internal connector
High definition audio device

Sound only seems to come out of the ATAPI Internal connector which is a single speaker inside the computer. If I set the 'High definition audio device' to default it thinks sound is coming out but nothing is played through the speakers, headphones etc. Both the front panel and rear panel refuse to output sound though they are able to recognize when something is plugged into them.

Has anyone else run into this issue? I have run out of ideas.

According to the dell website when I run the service tag I have a Realtek ALC269. At this time dell has no plans to support windows 10.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't need to use Dells driver for the audio. You can try that driver or go to Realteks website and see if they have a Windows 10 driver. The driver is the same, it is the HD Audio driver.

I gave that one a shot and still no dice... Wasn't sure if someone else had come across a work around. Thanks for trying to help though.

Yeah I acknowledged that in my post. Was seeing if someone had found a work around though.

Possibly a Sound Card.

Did you try going to Realteks website and searching for a driver there?

Are you 100% sure it is a Realtek?

Yeah i did, no dice there. Also tried to 'windows' driver and the 7 driver from dell anyways. Still no dice. Strangest thing is after upgrading to 10 it all worked fine. Shut it down and the next day the issues came up.

Then I have to agree with SR-71. You might have to look into a sound card since Dell must have made the drivers proprietary. If you have a PCIe slot you can get a decent card for pretty cheap. Get the right one and it might even sound better than the onboard one (those are normally crappy codecs anyways).

One last shot , have you tried the Compatibility mode in 10.

If not the card would be a the only other possibility.

Turns out an awkwardly times power surge fried something. Drivers work fine on another identical PC.
