Better solution... why fracking bother at all then? Then the only real difference is:
Win8 Pros =
Faster Powerup (hybrid), but many with Win7 can simply put their PCs to sleep. Mine wakes up in 1-2 seconds. SSD bootup is 20 seconds (LinuxMint boot up with a HD is about 25 seconds)
TaskSwitcher : ooooo... as nice as it is.... its not what 99% of us run every day.
File copy window : great, we get a graph and a pause button... wow!

Is all that really worth $100~200 to "upgrade" over Win7? No!

Win8 Negs: Metro, hiding the start button (its still there), crappy UI design, crappy UI skin job, lack of vision, lack of respect, lack of support, from MS. high price to pay when all most people DO is browse, email and facebook.

Since killing Win8 off the notebook and putting LinuxMint on it ($0 Free)... my wife hasn't said a single peep about it. Nothing. She knows little about computers. As long as it works... it doesn't matter.

Microsoft Windows simply does NOT MATTER anymore for 99% of the people.
The only things that are really tied to MS-OS are: intuit software, Adobe software and those guys should really look at Linux for the future.

Why? Because it is MY choice what to use whatever I want to. Not yours or anyone else.

I paid $14.95 for the full Win8 Pro with Media Center to test it out- I liked it so I kept it as my main operating system.

Expanded features and choice. Do not assume your way of doing things is better than anyone else. That is incredible myopic and condescending.

Every time Tom's (or any other site for that matter) posts anything about Windows 8 or touch-screen PC's you always, ALWAYS, get people who instantly denounce such products almost as if they are "of the devil himself".

Maybe that's because we know from experience how accurate and efficient touch input really is

i was a big fan of dell when i was younger my first computer was made by them the old 3.1 windows system i would tell people if you want to play games they are the company to go with or Alienware which is made by dell for extreme graphics.

windows 8 was made to kill two birds with one stone. they wanted to make a tablet but they didn't have the technology so they decided to make three or four different version which one you will get will be determined what you buy. there other reason is they wanted to make a track pad like what apple makes but there windows 7 and they had to fix a few bugs and a few other things at least that's what i was told how true it is i don't know most likely it is.

Ummm no. I would buy a Dell before I bought anything Apple and I don't even like Dell. I want nothing to do with crapple.
