Desktop can access surface pro. Surface pro cannot see desktop. 'Network status' issue.

Desktop can see/access surface pro. Surface pro cannot even see desktop. Both are updated to current windows 10 where they removed 'homegroups'. The new area seems to be 'Network Status'. I have both computers enabled for file sharing, under 'sharing options'. I've even manually right clicked my hard drives/folders -> 'give access to' -> enabled sharing. My desktop is connected to the router wired, surface pro is wireless. If I could take a guess this is the issue, but I'm unsure the proper procedures to enable the surface pro to see/access my desktop. Sorry about the redundant thread, but as this is a new update, previous forum threads on the topic are now outdated. from what I could find. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
