I am getting a couple of copies of the desktop.ini file opening up in notepad
when I boot my computer. This desktop.ini file is also appearing in the "All
Programs" directory on the Start menu. The file also appears in various
other directories.

No matter where I go, even on my floppy drive or my USB drive, I find the
file - it's following me everywhere.

What do I do to get rid of this file from all of my USB drives, floppies,
directories, etc?

Yvonne,

Notepad Starts With "[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\System32\Shell32.dll,-21787" When You
Start Your Computer

I do have another related question, though - how on earth did I get these
"desktop.ini" files on my computer - I didn't make any folder changes or
anything and neither did the other users of the computer and why did the
"desktop.ini" file appear on the USB flash drive and the 3.5 floppy disk?

Yvonne,

No idea how the file was created in the drives/folders. Perhaps they are
transferred when you copied a folder structure from the hard drive, or when
you customized a folder icon or thumbnail icon in the folder properties?

If that's not the case, it's a good idea to scan for Viruses.
