This morning when I turned computer on, down by the clock, there was a popup
saying it was Desktop Wizard, saying that there were items on desktop that
were unused and did I want it to clean the desktop up? I have never had this
before and I haven't downloaded anything. My question is, what is this and
where did it come from? Thanks

If you want to get rid of this go to control panel>display. Click on the
desktop tab then on the 'customize desktop' button. At the bottom of the box
that pops up uncheck the 'run desktop cleanup wizard every 60 days'

Hi Helen,
That is a feature that checks for icons on your desktop that you haven't
used in a while and just wants to know if it can remove them and store them
somewhere. You can turn this off this way:

>To open Display, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click
>Display.

>The Desktop Cleanup Wizard displays a list of the desktop icons that have
>not been used for 60 days or more, enabling you to remove those icons that
>you don't want on your desktop.

>You can retrieve icons you have removed by opening the Unused Desktop
>Shortcuts folder on your desktop.

>Clear the Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard every 60 days check box if you don't
>want the wizard to run automatically every two months.

Hmm. I just turned mine off. Thanks! Hope this helps.

Stephen, I did what you advised and there is nothing there in any of the
different topics about the desktop wizard.

It's normal but redundant. I don't understand why MS put that there as one
can remove desktops icons at will without a stupid wizard. What's ironic is
that the wizard creates a new icon on your desktop in the form of a folder
that has all the icons it has removed in it.
