Difference between Sandy bridge FCLGA1155 & LGA1155 sockets

Is there any difference between FCLGA1155 and LGA1155 sockets? Does a FCLGA1155 processor (like the i-3's) need a mobo with FCLGA1155 socket or will it work even on one with a LGA1155 socket and vice versa.

What will be the impact if one tries to upgrade from a FCLGA1155 to LGA1155 processor and vice versa.


While researching on Intel site I realized the entire i3-2100 series, i5-2390T AND i7-970 all use FCLGA Socket while the rest of second generation processors are LGA1155 (i5-2390,2400 & 2500 series and i7-2600S).

Yes it works.
We have plga775 which is plastic land grid array 775
We have fclga1155 that is flip chip land grid array 1155.
Differences in flip chip is that :

Yes it is work.But however according to some the bios wont recognize it however it would work.

However ever since its start flip chip production i think all there cpu are flip chip.They would of course still work on normal lga 1155.

Are you sure ? Cuz i plan to go in for i3 FCLGA115 and later upgrade to either a LGA1155 i7 processor or maybe even an Ivy Bridge as it too uses LGA1155.

I want to avoid changing my mobo too.

FCLGA = LGA. There are no differences between the two.

As I said it may or may not work depends on the BIOS,
If you havent flashed a bios before or are not famillar with bios setting please refrain on buying a fclga1155.
