In a previous posting, 'Bob" reported, "I've got a Dim. 4100 that
seems to be failing (start-up button needs more than
one or two tries to get going). "

My Dimension XPS T recently developed the same problem. What is the
likely cause?

A failing power supply would be my first guess. Careful! The Dell power
supplies used in the 4100 and XPS T models are proprietary. You simply cannot
use any old standard ATX power supply... Ben Myers

I have a T series that exhibits the same tendencies, but it's the button
itself, not the power supply.

I had difficulty deciphering whether he was referring to the button not
working right, or if it just didn't start and the button seemed OK.

Mine always starts, but sometimes quits after one to two seconds. I
sometimes have to press the button 2 or three times before it holds.

Could this be a button problem? It seems more like a power supply or
motherboard problem.
